AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

Overclocked using FSB only all voltages kept at stock. Used 5 runs of Intel Burn Test for stability. Air cooled using OCZ Vendetta 2.

Afternoon Wayne, 'bout time you started a Phenom II overclocking thread I've got three systems here at home, 550BE in a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H, plus a 720BE and a 955BE in an Asus M4A785TD-M Evo each. 4gb of ram apiece, two rigs on win 7 and one on XP, all 32 bit
Give me a bit time and I'll see if I can get some clocking figures organised, won't be till later though:)

haha love it . . . like anything was stopping you doing it Mr :p

Good to have you back and I look forward to your results!

Well theres the wife, kids, jobs lists, stuff to do, work, jobs lists, etc....oh and did I mention jobs lists:D:)

I'll have a go later when me time is me own:)

Edit: can someone tell me how to do a sreenshot to post here?

Hey Uriel, you just made Screen Of The Day!

I'm impressed, for the money you paid I do believe you have *Out-Banged* me with my AMD® Athlon™ II X3 425 @ 3.6GHz . . . I will compare some tests with you once you get everything maxed and to your liking! :)

IntelBurn 2.4 (standard settings) fails with my northbridge clocked to 2400. Backed down to 2.1 GHz and it passes 5 tests.
I'm looking at your screenie now and I am wondering how the temps are? . . . I can't see CoreTemp or any other temp program . . if you can somehow squeeze this in to your beautiful screenies it would be handy! :)

I'm wondering if the IMC is feeling the heat? . . how are the temps? ;)

can someone tell me how to do a sreenshot to post here?
Gimme a bell mate I'll talk you through it! :)

my 955 quad will happily do stuff a 4013 :D

but cant get it to finish my intel burn run :( 1.5v not putting no more through it just yet :p

3.9 fine @ 1.4875

just not stable at 4 ! think with better board would be (have asus evo at mo )

Well my motherboard has a CPU temperature readout led and that matches the temp 1 reading in Speedfan and the BIOS so any of the above. You'll see a few of my screens in various threads have speedfan shots in them.

Temps never go higher than 55° in IntelBurn, Prime or S&M. Mostly they sit at around 52°C under load.

Pretty convinced that my RAM is the limiting factor. Its just standard Crucial PC6400 DDR2. Only upping the RAM votage let me get over about 285 for the FSB.

Heres my effort:

Getting a bit toasty, needs a better cooler (Baram anyone?), and I believe the psu is showing it's limitations when overclocking, lots of warm air exhausting the case. Thats just banging the Vcore up to 1.55v and raising the multi to x19, nowt else:)

Screenie with temps as requested:

Secondary question: should I really be posing in the Phenom II overclocking thread? Maybe it should be Athlon II or even Athlon X2?

I guessthe chip being a Deneb qualifies here...

That looks great! . . . Did you get time to run any Prime95 Blend on that? . . . 4GHz prime stable quad core would be quite something! . . . can you include maybe CPU-Memory tabs also please (you can open multiple copies of CPU-z no probs), apart from that great result and good screenie!

EGuitarStar
great result but sadly your posting it in the wrong thread as your using a RANA core, can you edit your post down to a smiley and please repost your results here . . . AMD® Athlon™ II Overclocking Thread . . . thanks very much I am getting loney by myself in that thread haha! :o

~>Dg<~
That looks promising . . . I think? :p I can't see much info in your screenie! . . . any chance you could include a few more apps like CPU-z showing main tab and memory tab, that would be great and I thank you in advance for your efforts!

Looks good to me, that's the first Callisto to be posted up, nice screenie too, any chance you can include CPU-z memory tab please (you can open multiple copies of CPU-z no probs). The Baram is a great cooler and totally overkill for me using a Rana Core but very appropriate for anyone using an Phenom™ II with it's big fat slab of Level 3 cache which I believe generates a lot of heat once overclock! . . . Also did you overclock the CPU-NB yet?

Uriel
I just remembered the thing about not being able to monitor temps once the chip is unlocked haha! . . . anyway you sure do qualify to publish your results in this thread, at the moment your the Bang-for-buck champion, I'm tempted to make a purchase just to dethrone you hehe! ;)

Right. Pulled out all the stops...

Unfortunately 3DMark06 system info is lying :(

Edit: Bizzarre - S&M thinks I'm doing 3.8GHz too.

shows different core voltage :confused:actually need 1.5v but says 1.440v on that .

i keep it at 3.7 though cause its more than fast enough and idles at 29c and max load is 44c.

at the highest pictured its 32c idle and 50 running ibt.

i think if i had better mobo would do 4 pretty easy maybe 4.1-4.2 . for a older stepping i think its pretty sweet !

Not touched the NB at all, does that affect the overclock at all? you know me, overclocking past a certain doesn't interest me as I get no increase in performance for my useage:D. won't be able to post a screenie of the ram as that pc's monitor is now on this pc as this pc's previous one, a dell2209wa is now packed up ready to be posted to the guy who bought it.

The ram in the pc in question is :

Ocz pc2 6400, 2 x 2gb, running at stock, as are the timings

currently trying to tweak a 4ghz oc but it's having none of it.
3.8 at 1.425V is pretty good but even with 1.5V i cannot get a stable 4ghz:mad:

not quite figured out whats stopping it to be honest i think core 4 is a little dweeb on this chip it seems to drop out before any other.

anyone out there with a 955 at 4ghz would like to share any settings or any info they have

like yours mine will do 3.9 quite steady at 1.5v and pass ibt runs but 4.0 will be fine in everything but start ibt and it will restart system .

thats just on the multi

heat is fine and i dont fancy goig over 1.5v

posted a screenie few posts up .
