AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

I just loaded the newest bios for my board, its not their on that one, cant recall seeing it on the one it shipped with either, maybe its just on the 77/8 series ?
 
my Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P doesn't have LLC, thb i don't think any gigabyte board as it....

this motherboard as no vdrop.

i think i'll keep with gigabyte if i choose to upgrade to a 890fx.... but for now my board supports x6 cpu's..

I thought at first it had zero vdroop, but that turned out to be me needing a newer version of cpu-z to show it :D But I am inclined to say that 1.365 dropping to 1.349 under prime load is pretty good. Maybe Gigabyte just hardcoded LLC into it, at the setting all their overclockers said was best?
 
Well after a few days of tinkering I have got the 545 stable at 3 cores running 3.45ghz. I have played around with voltages and kept everything else underclocked but haven't managed to get it higher. It has passed prime95 overnight so seems stable.

I'm pretty pleased really, the performance boost over my old pc is nice. I can't complain for a 70 quid cpu really. I was a bit nervous about overclocking again as it has been a long time since my last build, but it was a breeze really (I know it isn't the highest overclock ever, but I don't think I can push the unlocked core any further, it did clock higher and remain stable on 2 cores however).
 
liamcrane - 0% llc does not turn it off. If you set it to 0% you will find that the vcore increases under load (negative vdroop). If you already have your vcore set quite high in bios this can be quite dangerous for your chip.
 
Just a thought, could it be that Gigabyte boards have their own form of LLC, thus making it appear they are 100% stable? Its just the is no option to turn it off?

My last board a P5Q Deluxe, had LLC, which made cpu voltage rock stable.

Also, been reading about a bit. Whats this with people having problems getting 1600 mhz ram stable on AMD platforms? My Ram seems to be running ok.

And I know this is Phenom II OC thread, but I will be ordering X6 soon as I can, semprons just a stop gap :D

From what i've read HT doesn't really make a difference, and isn't worth taking past the stock 2000MHz.

CPU-NB on the other hand can make a big difference and is well worth taking up to 2400-2800MHz.


Also, I'm running 8GB 1600MHz stuff fine :) Just needed to bump up the CPU-NB volts (currently running 2400MHz @ 1.3V).
 
I am not sure that anyone here knows that. I think most people do keep it the same. But others have found that lowering the ht below stock can increase stability (or help to unlock extra cores). I would be interested to see some benchmarks with ht comparisons. Might have to do that myself at some stage.

EDIT: Hex - do you have a source? Do you know if lowering the ht can reduce performance?
