Hi i have just had a pc built for me recently and im having issues with running battlefield 4 on it. Its fine on high settings at the moment but if i switch it to ultra settings i get the blacks screen problem. Also i bought a 1440p monitor last week and when i try to run battlefield at 1440p i get the black screen too after 5 or 10mins of play, this also happens at random times in desktop mode. I've tried doing a clean driver uninstall in safe mode and reinstalled the drivers but it still continues to happen.
Is there anyone that can advise me on this issue or on how to fix it?

Or should i cut my losses and sell the card on and buy the 780 ti?

Just buy a Ti.

I jest :D

If you're using 14.1 do a clean up and roll back the drivers :). Black screen seems to be down to the bad batch of Elpida memory so if it persists return for RMA/Refund.

my card (sapphire tri-x 290)had hynix memory, granted it did not black screen all the time maybe 1-2 times in 24hours but its still unacceptable for £400 product

it seemed very random and happened mostly when idle on desktop/surfing

Try disabling hardware acceleration on your browser. Just a suggestion if it happens while the pc is idle/browsing the web. I personally keep it off while using Chrome.

Sorry to hi-jack but since I've getting my 290x's I've had problems with freezing in bf4 where I have to reboot pc,never had this problem with my 7990,I'm using 13.12 drivers is anyone else having this problem?

Is that with your gpu's/cpu at stock? Can you alt tab out at all or does the whole pc lock up?

yeah i tried the 14.1 beta driver and then after i done a clean uninstall i tried 13.12 but its the same problem. Should i roll back the drivers further and if so what would be the best version to use?
I've spent £1600 on this system mainly so i could play games like battlefield on high settings and 1440p without any hassle for current games and future 1's. If i cant run this game properly now how am i gonna manage games in 3 years time.
I feel like ive wasted my money now, is there a fix at all for this problem or will a new driver be the solution?

Sounds like a game issue to be honest if it runs fine on high settings. Stick with 13.12 WHQL and try verifying your BF4 game files via Origin. Right click BF4 in Origin and select 'Repair Game'. Load the game, go into video settings and then click 'Reset To Default'.

Gpu's are at stock, cpu at 4.8 I've never had a problem with the 7990 and cpu overclocked.
Can't do anything the pc is locked when the game crashes so I have reset/reboot.

Same problem as my MSI 290. It's been RMA'd, hoping they send a replacement out today so I've got something to run over the weekend !
Should do as the card is only a week old :(

I have also had crashing on my 290 (2nd I have had) mainly in bf4 but also in DayZ standalone. I have tried fresh installs on win 7 and 8.1 x64. Most recently I have had to drop my cpu oc and that seems to have stopped it. Strage as I had been running that oc for 2 years on my previous card without any issue

edit: also updated motherboard drivers (p67a-UD4-B3) but still had the crashing with the the OC at full (i5 2500k @ 4.6. Reduced to 4.2 for now while I assess stability before knocking it back up)
edit again: never had a single crash with the 290x and 4.6 cpu in crysis 3)

BF4 seems to be good at weeding out an unstable cpu clock it seems. Had to bump my voltage a notch on the cpu as well.
