amd R9 290 4gb issue with bf4

I have also had crashing on my 290 (2nd I have had) mainly in bf4 but also in DayZ standalone. I have tried fresh installs on win 7 and 8.1 x64. Most recently I have had to drop my cpu oc and that seems to have stopped it. Strage as I had been running that oc for 2 years on my previous card without any issue

edit: also updated motherboard drivers (p67a-UD4-B3) but still had the crashing with the the OC at full (i5 2500k @ 4.6. Reduced to 4.2 for now while I assess stability before knocking it back up)
edit again: never had a single crash with the 290x and 4.6 cpu in crysis 3)

I'm confused. You have/had a 290X but crashes on the 290?

i have an msi 290 oc and never have any black screens or crashing in bf4 with the beta drivers or the whql!!!
i was crashing a lot in war thunder but only because they dont fully support the new beta drivers yet so i rolled back to the whql ones all is fine now

Never had any crash in crysis 3 only bf4,I'm gonna reduce the overclock on the cpu to see if that makes a difference but still don't understand why my overclock wasn't a problem when I had the 7990.

290 xfire will likely make the gpu work harder as it can render more fps than a 7990. May not be the issue at all, but worth a shot.

sorry. my typo. I have only had 290's

one was returned as it couldn't hold temp. with the second I have crashes but I suspect this is CPU over clock related even though it was never an issue on my old 6970

I have a brand new sapphire 290 tri-x and my cpu was overclocked to 3.8 and I kept having lockups in crisis 3 and bf4 and sometimes desktop have now gone down to 3.7 and no freezes yet but it seems a cpu related prob

Well I i changed my overclock from 4.85 down to 4.7 and I had no freezes as of yet so it must have something to do with the overclock for whatever reason.

I went to stock testing before and had the same problems but for your errors maybe it holds true. Compared to most games it usually lies with BF4 bugs rather than hardware instability.

Seen a few posts similar to yours blaming 290's of late. My money is they're in the same boat.
