AMD R9 290 (Non-X, Pro, etc) Owners Club

still enjoying my 290 so much, want to marry it.

Its a nice card alright, a couple of times I've almost been seduced into 970 sli but the other day I was playing sleeping dogs at 2560x1440 and it played and looked superb and I thought to myself why bother, I've come to the conclusion my powercolor 290 PCs+ will be with me until the and 3 series arrive at least

From all the issues I've had with my 290, I can honestly say when it works I'm impressed. General usage I can run -37mv and -100aux which idles around 44c and when gaming, I can run stock volts at 1100/1375 which hits 81c and its fantastic.

My only issue is with the driver package. You can't always guarantee a clean install if upgrading or testing older versions and they need to give you CCC options for using max clocks while gaming - removing the need for RadeonPro.

I cannot wait to get this underwater with potential for a 2nd card :D

Moggles did you honestly get rid of your 980 as well as your 970 to go back to a 290?

I'm thinking of moving over to the green team next year with their new products but a little undecided yet.

Glad it's all coming together mate and that clock dropping fix has been reported so it will be fixed at some point. As soon as i have a specific idea which driver that will be in, I'll let you know. Both my 290P cards were good clockers on the core.

well am sorry to say all my problems with my pc were fixed by taking the 290's out of it and putting them seperately into other pc's. Green team solved them :( it was fun while it lasted amd

I've started having issues with my GPU flickering black & strange colours again but not in full screen. Hardware acceleration is disabled and its still happening. Clocks were -37mv and -100aux, they're back at stock, will see what happens.

Other suggestions??

....and don't give me the uninstall/reinstall driver bull! I've never encountered anything worse than the AMD drivers!

So after trying a load of stuff a while ago, and then googling the issue again recently I found out that boards with the NF200 chip cause it to BSOD sometimes when it's going into low power/2d/desktop mode. Is that correct?

Just installed a b grade MSI 290 into my PC, and so far it's running very nicely. I'll have a play around with the VSR feature, and will have to start looking into some modern games to make best use of it.

Don't know about anyone else but I'm getting a lot of pleasure out of reading the 970 thread at the moment. I know I shouldn't but what the hell - I'm not posting in there am I??

Hahaha I picked up a 290 second hand just before the 970 came out and defiantly feel like I've dodged a bullet.

Touch wood my 290 hasn't missed a beat yet.

Thing is wasn't it kinda the same for the 570 except Nvidia just left it with less ram 1280 instead of 1536? I guess with the 290 and 290x both with 4gb Nvidia might have trouble selling the 970...or at least to people wanting to sli for high res

Almost identical, 570 has a smaller bus (320bit??) and ram that follows. It's how it's been advertised that's getting peoples panties in a twist.
