Does anyone have any thoughts on using a AMD RAMDisk @ 8GB

What's the best things to install on this drive?
Is it even worth setting a 8GB RAmDisk?

Nobody?

*What about moving the TEMP / TMP files User and System variables
*Moving the TEMP Internet Explorer Files

Should the RAMDisk clear on shutdown or save

I've tried Ramdisk before, if you bench it the numbers are insane however if you think you can start loading games from ram I can tell you now it does lower loading times but not as much as you might think. It's not the fault of the Ram but at these sort of speeds you hit the limit of what the software can deliver, given that we not likely to be using Ram permanent for storage any time soon developers won't be investing time into improving optimisation.

The best application for Ramdisk that I can see would be for production pro's who work with video files and large graphics, the Ramdisk can be used a temporary scratch disk while your working on a project. At the end of the day you can then save your working file back to a hard drive and load it back the next day. The problem at the moment is to get the best out of this you need really a ton ram and ram is not exactly super cheap at the moment.

I have notice on some games the speed is increased significantly but I guess it depends on the actual game.

I currently have it for my TEMP/TMP files to avoid SSD wear

Another thing I have noticed is my latency in Memmaxx has went from 56 to 150 with the RAMDisk installed and active.

Just looked at this and may try the freeware version to see what it does.

Currently have 32Gb installed in my system (it was cheap at the time so thought, why not?) so may be worth a spin....

The speeds are unbelievable crystaldiskmark

SSD- 250mb/s
RamDisk- 6000mb/s

With a free version or AMd RAMDisk you will only be able to make a 4GB ramdisk until you purchase it.

I got the gamer edition for £4.69
Using the discount code I got from raptr and the current exchange rates. GREAT DEAL:D

AMD Ramdisk is very easy to setup

They have a good website to with tuition videos

The temp files are easy you just point them to the ramdisk

A good tip is before you move the location screenshot the whole screen to capture the default locations incase you want to revert back later

Am very tempted now..may look see at the discount code.

Is it fairly easy to configure in mem allocation and also what files you can use (as in with your temp file use)

Just need to work out optimum mem share between w8.1 and RamDisk too

Did you ever set up a RaMDisk?

Update on what I am using my Ramdisk for

TEMP/TMP files
Internet explorer temp files
Indexing files

Hopefully this will extend the life of my SSD

Yes it will be usable as a standard drive and will save the image on the fly, if you select this it will load the image back into the Ram on startup
