AMD RYZEN 5000 SERIES 5950X, 5900X, 5800X & 5600X NOW ONLINE AT OcUK!!

I don't mind paying the extra for Zen 3, it's a treat to myself as i've had a bad year (coronavirus not included in that), like finding out that by age 45 i'll be in a wheelchair cause of back problems. So I to splurge on myself.
In that case I'd suggest going for a 5900X as it will put you ahead of the curve for years to come and offers per core the best price of all the SKUs.

My only other concern is cooling, I tend to run my fans on low RPM (I have hypersensitivity to light and sound) so I don't know if my setup could handle a 5900X. Of course we don't know what the thermals will be like on these chips

Was there a reason they skipped the 4xxx name and went straight to 5xxx?

likely because there is a socket change coming up, and they didn't want to have a situation where they had Ryzen 5000 (Zen3) APU's on socket AM4 with DDR4 while a few months later they launch a brand new range of Ryzen 5000 (Zen4) CPU's on the shiny new socket AM5 with DDR5.

Renoir APUs have the 4xxx nomenclature so it becomes less confusing.

but that is normal:

the apu on the current gen uarch arrives after the cpu, and is given the next marketing gen.
2000, 3000, 4000... except the socket change would have left zen3 apu as 5000 on AM4 and zen4 cpu as 5000 on AM5.

a marketing nightmare.

Had hoped the pricing would be a bit more competitive for this gen, may end up going for a previous gen at this point or sticking with Intel when i do my next build.
Waiting to see what happens with 3070/new Radeon before doing a buy..

I'm not in any rush. Prices do seem iffy to me with Ryzen 5 being almost £300. Mostly I'm waiting for new gen motherboards and probably the next lot of Ryzen CPUs on a new chipset. Gives me time to save up for pretty much another whole PC build, if its 18 months or so wait. I can keep my current PC as a backup or leave it at my parents for when I visit.

On a 2700X. The 5600X has a nice price, but not sure how much I would lose going down 2 cores/threads. And £430 odd for the 8/16 is a little more than I want to spend at the moment.

Not in a huge rush I just like buying new things, it's a bad addiction.
