AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D motherboard recommendation

PCIE 5.0 and two SSD PCIE 5.0 slots. All three boards have these options, but I'm mostly curious about the reliability and customer service. I called up MSI and they were very helpful, ASUS was helpful, Gigabyte were closed for the day. I guess I'll deduct points from Gigabyte
Thank you for the input! What's your take on ASUS? The X670E-E gaming Wi-Fi in particular?

P.S. I work holidays and talk to clients any day of the week. Such is life, but that's a different conversation.

Hi everyone!

I'm looking at AM5 build using 7800X3D, and I'm split between MSI MPG X670E Carbon WiFi and ASUS ROG Strix X670E-E Gaming WiFi and maybe Gigabyte Aorus X670E Master. Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated! Cheers!

I just ordered the Strix X670E-F rather than the X670E-E.

The E-E has 3x PCI-E x16 slots, though if you use all three the top two go from x16/x0 to x8/x4. I know x16 to x8 doesn't make much difference but figured I'm not that likely to use the second slot anyway. It also offers 3x PCI-E 5 m.2 and 1x gen 4. The X670E-F has 2x5 2x4 and only 2x PCI-E x16 slots, for the price difference though I didn't think the X670E-E was worth the extra for me.

The other differences are the E-E has power and reset buttons on the board, error codes vs error LEDs. Slightly better VRM config (though afaik all x670E boards are overkill for VRM) 3 vs 2 USB2 headers (two is probably already more than I'll use), 10x USB 3.2 on the rear IO vs 2 USB 2 + 7 USB 3.2.

The X670E-F vs the MSI Carbon Wifi:
Doesn't have a front USB 3.2x2 header (might not matter to you but I wanted the option for it)
Does have 3x x16 slots but again the first one slows down if using all three (Supports x16/x0/x4, x8/x8/x4)
10 rear USB vs 12 (I use a lot of USB)
Doesn't have an external clock (most users won't care)
Costs more

vs the Gigabyte Aorus X670E Master:
Their website is horrible to scroll down and has text written over the top of each other, this really annoyed me :)
Has 3x x16 slots, though the bottom one runs at PCIE 3 x2 (top slot doesn't go to x8 is filling all three though)
Slightly slower rear USB (though this doesn't really matter) and 1 less USB-C port (same total rear usb)
Costs more

I have seen some complaints about coil whine on ASUS boards, though I've seen complaints about all of the boards for one reason or another.

What is the cheapest board if I'm not overlocking, only using one m.2 drive, don't require WIFI, will use 2x16gb 6000 so only 2 slots is fine. Don't care about RBG or looks.
Will be plugging in 5.1 speakers via the old 3x3.5mm jacks and probably need about less than 5 USB.
Should i just look at the Micro ones?

What CPU for? 7800X3D? Your requirements are so basic even A620 would do, but at the lower end: maybe Gigabyte's B650M DS3H, B650M K or MSI's B650M-P.

I would avoid Asus. I would look at the MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI

Nothing wrong the Asus B650E Gaming E, mine has been solid in all areas, all brands have the bios fix for the overvolting of CPU, mine stays below 1.26v all the time on my 7800X3D. I do think it was one of the best value boards in B650E range for features, I looked at the MSI B650 Carbon but that does not have PCE 5.0 support for graphics, sad thing is last time I checked MSI don't have a B650E board so lost out on some customers there.

Btw I was surprised how good the onboard sound is on the Asus board I have, my old PC had the Asus Xonar DX add on PCI-E card and the ALC 4080 on this board is really does a great job, especially in gaming , no hiss or crackle etc...real clear.

Last note my old Asus Z68 board (with OC CPU) is still going strong at 12+ years old, it's only beaten on age by my old Epox nforce4 Ultra board :) .

MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI can be had for £250, that Asus B650E Gaming E seems to cost more ?

I got my asus B650E Gaming E WiFi for £250, great value at that price, the newer ALC 4080 audio over the MSI ALC 1200 audio and digital LED readout/ CMOS reset and extra rear USB ports swayed me over the MSI X670E Tomahawk.

Some of the B650E boards have better specs then a few X670/E boards.

Fair enough, sold out now but yesterday it was available for £200 would be the one for me current board is MSI and I've had good experience with mystic light that's why I would myself go with it I should really stop looking, upgrade itch pretty hard to shift

I was a huge Epox motherboard fan, shame they went out of business, had a few brands over the decades ie Abit, Epox, MSI, DFI, ASUS, ECS etc, only one board died on me after I sold it ie MSI, but I never hold that against the brand since any motherboard can die or go faulty, end of the day I look for value, good specs and features, good BIOS support is also a plus point.
I did look at Gigabyte, MSI, Asrock, Asus when I was looking for my new AM5 board, so I'm always open to any brand in the top tiers.

A bit ironic, 200 quid years ago would have got you a top of the range motherboard, how times have changed.

:)
