All cores -25 gave me the best result and was stable (5 hours of aida64 stress test). -30 seemed alright on short 10 minute tests but would error repeatedly at the 25/30 minute mark so dialler it back and -25 works well!

I’d definitely suggest making the change in BIOS rather than with Ryzen Master, some of the changes I’ve made in RM before have reverted when I’ve locked my PC or the screen has even gone off!
That's pretty good.

But within the ASUS bios where did you end up setting this, because as mentioned there seems to be multiple locations within the bios to make adjustments and each one seems independent from the other, which adds to the confusion. Or did you end up setting them all up?

Yeah, set it in both the AMD overclocking section and AI tweaker at the same values so there was no clash.

Nice one dude. It's been puzzling me for ages and just haven't gotten around to adjusting it properly in the bios and went with the AMD RM app instead. But now I know. Thank you!

Finally got round to installing my 9800X3D this week, coupled with a B850 Tomahawk and 2 x 16GB Kingston Fury RAM (30 CL), 9070 XT and a fresh install of W11.

All gone well (it works anyway!) and I've just done a Cinebench 2024 run with the following results:

Multicore - 964 points
Single - 129 points

Are these scores ok? Not looking to OC just checking everything's as it should be.

Multicore seems quite low for the 9800X3D, might be worth running it again to check that score wasn't a dud. What cooler are you using? Assuming memory is all running at XMP speeds, 6000mhz?

The one I built with a mate this time last week had the following (handy that I saved it all in a Google Doc!)

At stock running on a Thermalright PS Evo cooler:

Single - 131 // Multi - 1277

Then with PBO at -25 and memory tweaked with the EXPO tweaked profile:

Single - 136 // Multi - 1392

I've run it again and got 930 on multi this time but still 129 on single.

Cooler is an Arctic Freezer II 280 AIO and temps are ok. RAM is using the EXPO profile at 6000Mhz so I'll give the XMP profile a go and see if that makes any difference.

Sorry, meant EXPO. My personal system is an Intel build vs. this 9800X3D was for a mate so getting my head all muddled.

Definitely seems low on that multi core score, how are the temps looking on the LFII? That should out perform the dual tower air cooler we put in this build.

Any adjustments to curve optimiser?

Did you enable the X3D gaming mode in the bios? When I went in to the bios the first time I was asked if I wanted to enable it or not. I have mine disabled.

If so this turns the 9800X3D from a 8 core 16 thread processor to a 8 core 8 thread processor.

You can check task manager and see if its running at 8/8 or 8/16. Task Manager > Performance > CPU

It will have Cores and Logical processors, if you have 8/8 disable X3D gaming mode and give it another try

Might be worth resetting bios to stock and just enable expo then see what you get.

Hi folks, after almost 18 years away (which sounds like a really long time now I've said that!) I've returned to AMD this week after building a new system with a 9800X3D. All seems stable so far, but just wanted to confirm if idle temps of 45-46 are normal? No overclocks, a Phanteks AIO cooler and plenty of case airflow (albeit low fan RPM due to idle), it seems a bit warm to me but then there's plenty of warm air coming from the rad so I'm not immediately concerned about poor contact with the block. I'm used to my i7 8700K idling nearer to 30 degrees in a much smaller case with a Corsair AIO, so thought it best to check before I start worrying.

Depends on your cooler and settings but 30-40C isn't unusual, though it is a bit cooler today this weather is also probably increasing temperatures a little. Your cooling may be set to bias for low noise over low temperatures.

Largely you won't get quite as low idle temperatures as Intel, unless you do a bit of tweaking, as Intel has better low power gating and/or E cores to help bring temperatures down under idle and low load states.

Have been getting some hot temps from the 9800x3d. Am running it stock with a corsair h100i LCD 240mm AIO, but its sitting around 60 degrees idle and jumps to 85-97 during CS2. This seems unusually high - is it worth re-installing the aio with a different thermal paste?

Was it a complete new build?

Would be worth checking the AIO is working correctly and connected to the correct header on the board.

When installing the AIO how did you tighten it down? did you go round in a circle or from corner to opposite corner? normally you could do a few turns on each 1 until all tight to make sure its even pressure.

Mine idles at around 45/50c with a EK 240MM AIO

Is the bios fully up to date as well?

Yes its a new build. Everything seems fine aside from the crazy temps on the cpu. It was pulling 80+ degrees constantly last night just idling in windows with windows search indexing running, and anything intensive will shoot it to 95c.

I've done some troubleshooting on the aio. The pump seems to work as icue reports 2700rpm and can hear it audibly change pitch when I adjust its speed, so think that's working. Temps do also come down pretty quickly from 95 to 60 when cpu finishes whatever its doing. Can't remember exactly how I installed it but the paste comes pre-applied as a uniform square so should be fine.

Motherboard version is March 25 on the 850 mag tomahawk. Considered updating but not sure this would do anything as bios is only 3 months old?

I would try and re apply the CPU cooler or just make sure its tightened down enough as if its not making good contact it could be causing the issue
