AMD RYZEN / RIPPER DISCOUNTS: UPTO £100 SAVING UNTIL 28th OCTOBER 2017!!

Picking up the 1950X after much thought and final temptation of the memory I wanted being on offer today. Also bought the Prime X399-A instead of the £500+ board.

Hope the purchase is a good one. Experiences of AMD stuff in the past not been good but willing to give them a try again.

I doubt you'll be dissapointed.

As for gaming on a 1950x - I'm getting a constant 90+ fps @ 3440x1440 with everything maxed out on Destiny 2 @ The Farm - it's no slouch.

But the best thing about this system is that I can render something in 3DSMax, Premiere Pro, After Effects or Blender AND play a game while it's rendering ;-)

All good so far. Been up and running for about an hour now, updating Windows currently. Also updated the bios to the latest version.

Once happy it's stable I need to raise the memory speed but didn't see an option for XMP in the bios when I had a quick look but did see a load of memory profiles. Had loads of other options and also noticed an OC 4000 profile that can be switched to.
All very good quality. The CPU (massive but easy to install), 8 pack memory (very nice quality, stylish looking), Asus X399-A, Samsung 960 Pro NVME is dinky. Also went for the Noctua 14" TR specific cooler and glad I did (rather than AIO).
Decided late last night to also just pick up a new power supply so I can continue using the old system and that's nice too (EVGA P2 850), luckily managed to get it for today. Should have ordered with the other parts but hey ho, at least managed to get one in time.
Corsair case pretty good (750D Airflow edition) but could improve a few things, especially the screws. Wasn't easy to find the right screws to secure the PSU and not 100% I've used the right ones now so need to revisit but is secure so must be right ones (maybe I have one duff screw that's just turning). Have spares from an old akasa case will use.. Side panels a bit flimsy. Overall happy with the case too. Need to install a couple of HDD's and a couple of SATA SSD's and plenty of space for those.
Only using a 730 GT ATM as the gaming GPu is still in old system.

Darren, did you OC at all? Manual or Auto voltages?
Hi,
No, I didn't bother. I did give it a quick try a month or so ago, just a conservative 3700 on all cores but I soon realised you lose the automatic overclock on individual cores, so the max any core went to was 3700 (stock clocks allow some to run higher). Someone mentioned something to try but haven't bothered having another look since. For my needs the stock clocks are plenty good enough. I was hoping for 3700 when all cores utilised with individual cores running up to the stock higher speeds when only a few cores utilitised.
It's been an awesome system though. No complaints at all, it's been rock solid often running 24/7.
