Yes, direct storage *may* improve performance by a few fps but I’d rather put that money to a better GPU or cpu which you will definitely notice.
Please demonstrate where £5-20 will put you up another CPU or GPU rung on your suggested build, over getting a faster SSD. Oh, it won't as the OP has an RTX 3080 already, and is getting the best gaming CPU period. So your advice doesn't hold up at all, what it will do is hold his system back in the future.

The 980 non pro is DRAMless so once it fills up, performance tanks. That’s poor advice right there.
It's faster than the SSD you recommended even when full, and isn't even worth worrying about unless you are hammering the driver with 10's of GB's consecutively, ans it was an example of a drive in the price range, rather than an outright recommendation .
