AMD Six core Benchmarks

Pretty disappointing - safe to say Intel's flagship won't be dropping price anytime soon.

Single threaded the X6 takes twice the time to SuperPI 1M compared with my i7, albeit with a small 400mhz advantage.

And multi-threaded I'm about 1000 Vantage CPU marks ahead, with two less cores!

methinks these have the potential to do quite well in niche markets, but only if the price right. im more that happy with my quad and wont be looking at more cores for quite some time - can just about scrape a stable 4ghz.

on a different note, i am quite surprised at what i think are really low TDPs for the 6 cores on both AMD and intel sides (ie, the original 965 took 140w for 4 cores @ 3.4, but the 6core BE takes 125W for 6 cores at 3.2)

You cannot use SuperPI to compare Intel with AMD. The only interested thing to read from this is that my 965 BE C2 at 3.4ghz scores almost that exact SuperPI score. So these are very slightly faster clock for clock if you're only talking about utilising an individual core.

But the evidence shows that they overclock further and obviously they have 50% more cores.

I'm not sure what people are expecting tbh. Surely unless the software is optimised for mutil-threaded applications which use all 6 cores, the results are going to be marginal say against a quad. 6+ cores are in infancy of their life, just as early quads were no quicker than dual cores. I think it's just watch this space - for the time being

the other thread discusses all this better :P

Sandra tests actually show these X6 CPU's are kinda deadly - but obviously they need to be priced correctly AND software needs to be able to take advantage of them - still waiting for BFBC2 benchies....

And a note for you core i7 owners - In order to change to an i7 (which is what the competition here is based at) - you had to change your whole platform (new cpu, mainboard and memory) - These X6 chips will however drop into most existing AM2+ and AM3 boards so are a much better upgrade path for those with existing AMD systems :P

The best comparison between CPUs in an actual benchmark. lol @ superpi.

6 thread AMD vs 8 thread Intel.
