AMD Suggests Possible Fixes for Ryzen USB Connectivity Issues

Not had any issues using an older bios on a msi 570 motherboard that came already on it, with my 3700x.

Maybe the newer bioses are the cause?

No usb issues since I built my 5950x and Asus X570 Formula in Dec thankfully, my PC runs 24/7 with lots of internal/external USB devices and so far not a single dropout and I'm using a gen 4 nvme and 3090 in gen 4 mode. Ran a few different bios versions even the beta Agesa 1.2.0.1 and it's fine.

Hopefully they identify this issue though and get it fixed.

I've been using the latest BIOS on an MSI X570 Ace with an RTX 3070 running in 4.0 mode and haven't had any USB problems. It seems random as to whether people experience it or not.

OP didn't read down to the bottom of the 'news' article, and clearly a few others didn't.

"The message also provides information on how you can submit a bug report and assures users that the company is actively investigating the issue and will provide an update once a proper fix is available. You can see the full text of the message here."

They've not issued any fix if you are seeing the issue, only a temporary workaround.

I've not seen it on a single one of the builds I've completed, 5600x through 5950x, and many different motherboards, however I'd expect to come across it eventually, but given the literal tens of thousands of possible PC part combinations, not to mention software it might be some time if ever. lets hope they fix it for those who are affected.

As @Journey says this is no fix, it ends in a workaround which is not an acceptable end solution. Thankfully they are still working on the actual fix.

I have to use PCIe3.0 and while I’m aware my PCIe4.0 nvme and GPU have relatively small real world impact from running at 3.0 it’s not what I paid for...

I hope AMD have the ability to solve it and it isn’t just a fundamental flaw in the chipset.

Faster than I thought. AGESA 1.2.0.2 rolling out to board makers: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/m2wqkf/updated_agesa_coming_for_intermittent_usb/

"We would like to thank the community here on r/AMD for its assistance with logs and reports as we investigated the intermittent USB connectivity you highlighted. With your help, we believe we have isolated the root cause and developed a solution that addresses a range of reported symptoms, including (but not limited to): USB port dropout, USB 2.0 audio crackling (e.g. DAC/AMP combos), and USB/PCIe Gen 4 exclusion.

AMD has prepared AGESA 1.2.0.2 to deploy this update, and we plan to distribute 1.2.0.2 to our motherboard partners for integration in about a week. Customers can expect downloadable BIOSes containing AGESA 1.2.0.2 to begin with beta updates in early April. The exact update schedule for your system will depend on the test and implementation schedule for your vendor and specific motherboard model. If you continue to experience intermittent USB connectivity issues after updating your system to AGESA 1.2.0.2, we encourage you to download the standalone AMD Bug Report Tool and open a ticket with AMD Customer Support."

I don't know if they mean beta bios in April or non beta April. Hopefully a non beta in late March.

Wow they seemed to have found a fix for that very fast

USB devices have been rock solid on my formula with a 5950x but great to know this major bug will hopefully be solved.

Yeh hopefully this will fix the bug for those that encountered it

It's possible the bug has happened on all our systems but Windows recovers it so quickly you may not notice the dropout? USB headphones for instance might just have a half second outage. But throw in a device where any kind of outage will break it, the issue is much more noticeable.

Good news either way.

It’s been known about at least since early November when many of the new G2 headsets that just started arriving were having a nightmare of a time with X570 and HP reported the problems to AMD... might have been reported earlier too for the other use cases mentioned that have been affected but that’s the first instance I personally know of.

So for me personally it’s been a pretty slow fix, assuming this does actually sort it we are looking at around 5-6 months by April if the board partners manage to roll it out on time.

I'm worried whatever fix they have might impact performance especially when they are tight lipped about why it actually happened. Like yeah great it's fixed but if this meant a rewrite of code that makes the CPU slower is that really a fix?

After weeks of going "mine's alright", I plugged a different mouse in yesterday and -BLAM- USB issues galore. Setting PCIe to 3.0 in BIOS does seem to have stopped it for now.

The last time I remember a major chipset bug was with Intel P67/Z68(?) when SATA was found to be prone to failing, they did a replacement scheme I believe even though most people at the time were unaffected.

Suggesting downgrading PCI-E 4 to PCI-E 3 and disabling power saving functions should not be acceptable.

At least the suggestions are only temporary until the software fix rolls out within a few weeks, that sata degrading over time needed a brand new hardware revision.
