AMD Suggests Possible Fixes for Ryzen USB Connectivity Issues

but is the AGESA update an actual fix or are they just gimping PCI-E speed and/or power saving at bios/microcodel level hoping the majority of people won't care/notice?

Should be an actual fix hopefully, seriously doubt they will nerf the PCI-E speed or power saving features. Can you imagine the fallout from that as it would be discovered very quickly, it would be a PR nightmare if they cheated and nerfed the hardware in any way.

The last time I remember a major chipset bug was with Intel P67/Z68(?) when SATA was found to be prone to failing, they did a replacement scheme I believe even though most people at the time were unaffected.

Yeah, the P67. I think I may have some sort of issue with USB on my MSI B550A-Pro but only with the front panel and my WiFi adapter. Hard to say whether it's linked to this problem.

I don't know but it's quite possible that they can just downgrade the link from the cpu to chipset which I believe is a PCI-E 4 connection but even then you're getting a significant downgrade to the bandwidth available to anything that is connected to the chipset, it may only rear its head if you have a load of SATA and USB devices but still it's a downgrade.

I might be barking up the wrong tree but if AMD were transparent about the problem it wouldn't be open to so much speculation. All they have said in their statement is that they believe the AGESA will fix it but anyone who still has problems to report it, not exactly inspiring confidence.

They can't just downgrade it as many people who use the full bandwidth of the chipset to CPU link would notice, it would become immediately apparent if you are running a high end M.2 NVMe disk through it, or more than one is some instances.

If AMD were transparent about the problem it wouldn't be open to so much speculation.

It's hard to be transparent about something until you know the issue exists, they've said that, they then reached out to those with issues and responded with a potential fix in the AGESA update.

Is it more inspiring if they say they fixed it, and ignore people if they continue to have issues?

i think i have experienced this today.

just thought I give my new PSU a run in so decided to crank CPU in OCCT stress test with AVX2 as well as stressing GPU with Furmark.

well, my USB external drives kept on dropping and reconnecting and also it played havoc with Corsair H100i as that communicates through USB so the fans on the rads were kicking up and down randomly.

this is a very odd behaviour. anyway will keep an eye on the new AGESA.

not really noticed this issue while gaming tho, i guess the CPU and GPU aren't really working that hard at 1080p.
