AMD to bring another performance driver!

GameWorks is fantastic and with the likes of The Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight using this, GameWorks is very very good.

Must admit, I'm being very tempted to switch to a pair of 980's just due to the added effects Gameworks will give these games (esp Batman, which looks like it's gonna be epic!!)

And it *is* Christmas soon.... :D

I think the 980s do ok in games.

Here are some screenshots of my 980s @stock using max settings in BF4 and CPU @4.0ghz.

Just stood still on the Test Range at the start. Not very scientific but it proves the point.

1080p Maxed =200fps

1440p Maxed =200fps

1600p Maxed =200fps

2160p Maxed =174fps

I think the 980s scale fine.:D:)

You're scraping the bottom of the crap barrel.

Show me some actual scaling, not screenshots of BF4 where your FPS is capped at 200 anyways and will not show how well the cards actually scale.

My 290s got 200fps at 1080p too for reference :)

Not to mention the frametimes.

When you max the game with 2-4 980s what exactly are you doing to show me that the scaling is good? 2 980s will kill BF4, hell even 1 could.

Your examples are useless.

I refuse to believe a 980 at these clocks only score 13350 GS Each. If you can find a single 980 that scored that low at those clocks ill admit im wrong and i will say without a doubt that 980 scaling is great :).

If you cant, then meh. Didnt expect much from the Kaap other than futile attempts at justifying his purchase.

This is 3930k @4.9GHz ---> 4.5GHz Haswell E for single card scores all over again, even though they're the same because of the IPC. But IPC doesnt matter as you previously stated, only the clocks do. Lol.

In fairness, you get all the GameWorks effects except for TXAA and PhysX, so you won't really be missing out with your 290s and probably a wise move sticking with them. I was gutted to see Batman was delayed (or extended) from December launch to June :(

The GameWorks effects that will be in Arkham Knight are Turbulence, Environmental PhysX, Volumetric Lights, FaceWorks and Rain Effects.

I am not even sure if AMD users can't use PhysX that is done in GameWorks in truth... Anyone?

No they aren't.

There are quite a few other features out with Freesync/VSR/Performance improvements being added too.

Really? because a lot of people in this forum claim this too that nvidia drivers are slightly better... well they claim they are more superior so they may be the the so called male fans of nvidia.

Still my point stands nvidia drivers are slightly better, AMD drivers are just catching up. You backed this up with the features you outlined they are adding. So my point stands.

Exactly, would be silly of me to switch just for the sake of a few fps increase and a few effects for the sake of about £500 extra!! Just trying to be patient for the next AMD/Fat Maxwell parts :)

I could show you the same screenshots with 4 x 290Xs but unfortunately they don't perform as well doing the same thing.

I also think you should stop linking to dodgy tech sites.

You realise half the games there are totally unsuitable to measure scaling on anything be it AMD or NV as they are CPU bottlenecked lol.

As for their results @4K on BF4 it is hard work to get the minimums as low as their averages in that game on 980s lol.

You have got to accept that there are things the 290Xs are crap at.

I don't need to justify my purchase as I got exactly what I was looking for with the 980s.

I still have

4 Titans
4 x 290Xs
2 x GTX 690s
2 x GTX 590s
2 x HD 5970s
4 x GTX 980s

So I don't have to worry about justifying anything as I think I have got most things covered.

Unlike you I enjoy technology regardless of who makes it and am not biased to one brand or the other. If only you could follow this example your posts would be a lot more interesting.

Check out TR benchmark.
Almost certain Kaap ran his 5970s on that, ran it maxed iirc :o

@Kaap.

I know you love doing really monotonous work, what's the chances of compiling a list of your 980s and 290s @4k for 2-3-4 cards? Just for comparison sake, 4k should alleviate the inevitable CPU bottleneck :)

Yer spot on. I ummed and arrred over getting a 980 or 2 but glad I didn't. I even think I am going to skip the next GPU release and wait it out a bit longer (if I can).

290/290x/780/Titan/780Ti are still very capable cards and sad when I say that going from last gen to the 980/970 isn't worth it for me. They all perform so close to each other, nothing is going to show any difference side by side (except if you are running a G-Sync monitor of course) :p

(Sorry, had to slip that in) :D

I would also like to see this. A nice graph of what does what in several games would be sweet.

On most of the benches if they are not there already I plan to have 1 and 4 card scores @4K.

As a rough guide @4K the 290Xs tend to win more than they lose but @1080p it is the other way round with the 980s winning more than they lose.

I don't like doing 2 and 3 card runs on the NVidia cards as the cases they are in are LDV8s where the side panel is held on by a load of alien bolts which makes changing the bridges hard.

At some point in the near future I will do a load of 2 and 3 card runs all in one go.
