NVIDIA is doing better in terms of business, net income of $302.5 Million vs (ATI) $41.676 Million in 2005
Maybe its a good thing for ATI & maybe in the long run for all of us - doubt it will happen though

ATi Fiscal report for 2005 financial year: (cant you just tell i used to be a finance officer
)
http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/phoenix/client/10/105421/quarterresults/ATI_Q405.pdf
Page one, 3rd paragragh, first and fith line. 2005 revenue was 2.2 billion US dollars. Net income after expenditures and taxes was $119 million, a drop on 2004 but with the production problems of the X1800 range and masses of old inventory to shift (a.k.a. the R480 cores which became the X800 GTO2) it shouldnt be a surprise to anyone and it certainly wasnt for our friendly Canadian company,
ATi
Nvidia Fiscal report for 2005 financial year
http://gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=14827
"The company's revenue for the fiscal year (2005) ended January 29, 2006 was posted at a record USD 2.38 billion (EURO 1.99 billion), compared to USD 2.01 billion (EURO 1.68 billion) a year prior. Net income for the year was USD 302.6 million (EURO 253.4 million), showing a year-on-year increase of 202 per cent."
Nvidia increased profits by 202% over that year... a suprise?? again not really, we mainly saw Nvidia getting off its arse and delivering a product that unlike the 5XXX range wasnt a laughing stock, this combined with Nvidias jump into the motherboard chipset market and SLI account for this growth. put simply, in 2005, they caught up and in many ways overtook ATi.
Nvidia had
SLi
the 7800 range
Nforce chipsets.
ATi had
X8XX range.
the Xfire platform was experimental at best
and the X1800 range was bogged down with problems.
as for ATi possibly being richer than AMD, they are both of a similar size so to combine forces would make them quite a formidable pairing.
