AMD To Commence Mass Shipping of Hawaii GPU in Early October

Launch day pricing for the 7950 & 7970 was ~£350 & £450 within the UK. Some went for much higher, but none were much lower. I doubt whether AMD will launch the 9900's much below this level, especially as more silicon is needed for each GPU. I reckon £350 & £450+ this time around, especially if the 9970 matches or pips the GTX780.

The 9950 looks like a very interesting card because it sits within the massive gulf between 7970/GTX 770 and GTX 780. My guess is that NVidia will launch a GTX 775 (hobbled GTX780) to counter this. AMD ar not going to give these cards away, like they did with the 5800/6900 series.

Why do people demand that AMD cards be so much cheaper than Nvidia cards? Maybe AMD needs to increase its prices to move away from this image.

Image, that is exactly what it is, as we all know there is nothing wrong with AMD cards. They are every bit as good as Nvidia cards in the general sense and normally cheaper. This is the image that AMD has presented over the last number of years, it is just like Skoda, they make cars that are every bit as good as say a Volkswagen but if the two were the same price you'd have the volkswagen every time, because of the image that Skoda have created around their cars as being the cheap alternative.

(yes I know this is a bad analogy as they are in fact both made on the same production line.)

They could concievably release 99x0 at £600 if it is as fast or faster than Titan.

im not sure they will do that as faster 7990 would cost less then 9970 , no point . 9970 is definitely most likely is less then 499£ i would even guess that would be less then 400 £.

Good point re the 7990, but remember Nvidia launched Titan at ~ GTX690 prices. Don't underestimate the lure of a very fast single GPU over faster dual GPUs. Everyone knows multi-GPU is far from perfect from both AMD and Nvidia.

With the price cuts on the 7990, AMD can't feasibly charge more than that for the 9970, given it'll perform worse.

Or hopefully match a Titan for under £400 :D

Now you can volt mod them to 1.3v that might be difficult (it makes buying a 780 lightning or classified a bit pointless) unless AMD want to come in at a higher price with a bigger chip.

It all depends which way AMD want to go.
