AMD to launch 5000+ and FX62 at Computex

There will be other benefits to the new chips too, although i doubt we will see those just yet, but the AM2 processor has been developed to support quad and octi cores, so there will come a time when we will all be upgrading, just don't think it will be anytime soon....

*growls at DDR2*

Hmm, I was always warey about latencies but I need to read up more on the different settings of DDR and DDR2, any one care to highlight these difference or shall I go over to the RAM section..?

Yeah I agree.
If you have a good fast stable s939 rig then there is no reason to go AM2.

And with the pricing of s939 being so good in terms of value and stability the answer is clear.

theres a review on toms hardware a AM2 4800+ vs 939 4800+ but that was using DDR2 675 or whateva DDR2 speeds are . anyways therewas no increase what so ever but they are realeasing it with DDR2 800 so there could be a slight increase there but nothing worth spending hundreds of ££££ to upgrade

yeah, but that review was goosed!

the ram was running at slack timings, but at basically pc-3200 speeds (check the sandra bandwidth test and the cpu-z screeny)

what that review shows (from my understanding of it) is that the am2 chips running on normal speed ram, with really slack timings can match current 939 chips with good timings (2-2-2-5 from memory)

so when higher bandwidth ddr-2 comes out with tighter timings, its going to show what its really capable of

Another article about M2:

It's even slower than a Skt 939 setup when using DDR2-667 and needs DDR2-800 to be as fast or a little faster, this is beginning to look like a forced upgrade to DDR2 and not because it offers performance advantages.

Revision F fixes poor DDR2 performance. :)

I intend to upgrade after my GCSE's, coincidentally am2 comes out around the time i finnish all my exams, a good way to bribe myself methinks. :)

However i would like to wait for solid DFI nF5/RD580 boards and bugless am2 chips.
