I don't see how this is a good move.
The fabrication part was the bit losing money. Now its hived off and has to make its own money it'll have to increase prices which means increased prices for the consumer. It will make no difference to the chip development side because the only people kitted out to make the chips for them are either Intel (which will never happen) or AMD Fabrication - so they'll still be using the same fabrication. If AMD Fabrication then goes under who is AMD Design going to use to fabricate their chips?
Thats what gets me about intel fanboys etc. They say AMD are pants and hope they go under, but they would be the first to complain when intel's processor prices doubled.
I want AMD to make a comeback, I miss my old AMD Athlon Xp 2400![]()
Due to lack of competition at the niche end of the CPU market Intel's extreme processors are already hitting the £800 bracket. The nehalam extreme i7 was on overclockers for what £850, not good at all specially in the climate we are all in at the mo. It can't do Intel any favours either, can it...
Hopefully this split and finance support from abu dahbi can get AMD back on the right competitive road. The Phenom's were a complete joke.

Anyone that remembers the P200 should know full well how lack of competition breeds not only high prices, but a complete lack of advancement too.
