AMD TressFX 3.0 to show at GDC 2015 but for Deus Ex Universe + Dawn Engine

Thing is AMD are brilliant at bringing out all these Techs, Mantle, TressFX, Trueaudio etc, yet they never get used. You see them hyped up, 1 or 2 titles use them and they fade to nothing :(

Someone somewhere must be a fault for it, marketing? lazy devs? who knows... but it gets boring, i have a 290, i love my 290, i bought my 290 and found out it had all these bells and whistles that could be used in the future, but they have hardly been touched, soon i will get a new card and feel slightly let down that the tech from my old card never really got used.

2 - Tomb Raider and Lichdom.

Yeah seen, so edited. :D

Yup, TrueAudio, is that still only used in Thief, and only for a certain sound :p

Good luck with that, it's Xbox One exclusive for at least 6 months so the only things you will hear about it will be related to the console version.

Still, as Xbox one and PS4 have AMD GPU's you might expect Tress FX 3.0 could be in the next game...

TressFX isn't tided to AMD GPU's even if PS4 had nvidia inside it could still use TressFX.

Its Compute based Physics.

Anyone else a bit fed up with all these great techs being linked to features of GPU's and then not actually ever being implemented in any real fashion?

Surely theres a cost involved with things like Trueaudio chips on the card? if its not popular remove it from the cards and charge less for the cards? maybe im just crazy in thinking this

Got to say, im sorry for taking the p outa Nvidias PhysX for hardly being used :p

I thought that PhysX should be used more and I grumble away, as I really do like PhysX effects and what it adds but then looking at the big picture, it seems that nVidia either pay to have it in or send out their developers to implement it in the game (no idea and could be both). Then I look at TressFX (again, something I like) and look at the games it is in and meh!

So long as TLOTR uses it, I will be a happy chappy. I didn't care much for Deus Ex but can see it is a good series.

Stuff like Trueaudio should be pushed more :S I used to mess around with Aureal's early implementation of their next gen system (before creative killed them) where sounds didn't just have 3D positioning but bounced off a simplified version of the level geometry including material simulation so that for instance if a sound source was at the end of a long pipe connecting into a room with specific properties that made it very "echoey" it would reflect that rather than just having a reverb setting indiscriminately slapped on the whole environment.

After hearing that kind of stuff plain old panned stereo sound is very weak and boring.

The problem with TrueAudio is that its a Programmable engine and to get the best out of it will need extra time and money into the making of the game. This is why I believe we not had it yet fully.

Battlefield 5 should use it that would be superb :D

Aye, physx and some of the game works features are good for that, great tech demo's, lots of hype, little meaningful end result.

While i agree all these techs are great and really enhance and add to gaming in general, the fundemental issue is someone has to be responsible for its implementation.

Nvidia / AMD are responsible for bringing the tech out which is good, but they need to support the tech with the devs.

Developers are responsible for implementing the tech.

Both of these things cost 2 things, Money and Time, both of those things will determine if the tech ever makes it live.

Firstly if the tech is new, you need to know how to implement it, this takes time, something which costs developers money, and also a commodity they have little of often when trying to push out a new title with people like EA or UBISoft etc breathing down their necks, and we all know quite frankly they just want their slice of the money and couldnt give a monkeys about the quality of the product or its features.

So really, these techs need more exposure, need to be open for people to learn in their spare time, if AMD and Nvidia made these techs opensource and then charged people for support on them, communities would form up, websites devoted to discussing how to use the software etc, and it would bloom.

a lot of indie games are made now by bedroom developers, a lot of these people end up at bigger studios. Its these people that need to get their hands on this tech for it to succeed imho.

make it open source, let people use it , learn it and help develop it, charge for licensing it if need be at the top end, but let people have it.
