I just got my X3 720 through today, idles at 21'c, system at 23'c. Awesome!
I'm replacing my X4 940 with it, well playing with both actually.
Only problem thus far, the 940 didn't need a bios update whereas the 720 won't display correctly without one, I don't own a floppy so can't flash, but the system is running fine without it.

Dual for now until the quad price come down.
Your point? I don't see anything in this statement that suggests a reason for not buying a triple core.
It's at least 10'c higher than that.
Your ambient room temperature will be no lower than 23, and cool running though these are, they can't work magic.
Are you reading the core temps or the general cpu temp ? The former reads 10'c lower than the latter in Everest
and are likely incorrect (for everyone not just you).

720 BE at £120 pounds is probably the best chip you can get for that sort of money new PERIOD. IF you wanty the best bang for buck, get it... If you want to drop down a level get the 7750
As for saying im not getting a 720 because its a quad with a core disabled what are you on?
All the chips are just mauled after they are made to meet different market niches, the fact its had a core disabled means nothing other than the blatently obvoius... I have owned one, it ran very cool and was a great chip... I found it easier to OC the x4 to 3.6 though... 720 needed a lot of volts.

The X3 720BE has more cache than the X4 810 meaning that for most non multithreaded applications it performs better (setting aside the higher clock speed and overclockability of the BE). Cf the 940, depending on the workload, it still has more cache PER CORE, and can outperform that too at the same clock speed.

Is it poissble to unlock the 4th core? or is it just myth. Because Ive heard a lot of rumors but not seen any evedence of it been done yet.
On some chips with some motherboards, and usually at a lower clock speed than the the other cores. In most cases not, and I really don't see this as a reason to buy one. If you need 4 cores, buy a quad core, this aspect of the 720 is little more than a novelty.

You could say the same about quad cores, it's all about applications that can take advantage of the extra resources.
At the same clock speed? It's going to be 1 core better, kind of obvious no ?
