I was under the impression that games are still only able to use one core even new releases such as Crysis, I am still on single core Opteron 146 @ 2.5Ghz and am now thinking about upgrading.

I heard somewhere that 3 cores is good for games because the xbox 360 has three cores which makes it easier to transfer them across or some such.

I imagine that the low power single cores will find their way into thin clients or low power systems like Via C7 is focused on.

I think they are daft to have three brand names Phenom, Athlon and Sempron. I know its nothing really new and goes back to 486 SX and DX, but they could just call it the Phenom 4x 3x 2x 1x. The difference is much more apparent and its far easier to market 1 brand than 3.
