AMD trolls Nvidia at Nvidia Event

That's great but 4k is too high res atm and even those frames aren't very playable, I also haven't seen any prices or dates from amd on 290x

I wonder what cpu amd used for those figures ;)

Still a long way from properly optimised results at 4k from either camp I'd be more interested in 1920x and 2560x benchmarks.

So they showed two AMD optimised games at resolutions no one plays at with the 290x slightly ahead :rolleyes::p

My farts are more relevant than this, although I do quite like the drama. I can imagine Nvidia are pretty ****ed off right now

BioShock Infinite (3840x2160, Ultra Settings)

  • AMD Radeon R9 290X "Quiet Mode" average frame rate: 44.25
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 average frame rate: 37.67
Tomb Raider (3840x2160, Normal Preset w/ TressFX On Off)

  • AMD Radeon R9 290X "Quiet Mode" average frame rate: 40.2
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 average frame rate: 34.5
Not bad :)
Quiet Mode? hhmmm?

One thing I really have to give to both camps.

They've really upped the game on the reference cooler designs. Both Nvidias stunning 780/titan cooler and AMDs new 290 Coolers are SWEET looking.

It seems that the R9 290X has a mode where its faster and a "quiet mode"
the figures released are in quiet mode.

So even more performance to be had when you (push the button?)

Considering the AMD card is clocked 100MHZ on the core and higher on the memory "Based on leaked specs" its not that surprising to see an FPS difference although small, If they clocked the 780 to match the AMD card I imagine it would overtake it.
Heres another graph from guru3D's visit in montreal -

IMO on the 290x they should have made the red highlights translucent, worked the mesh design into the sheath more and lit it from inside in subtle red.

The architecture of the two cards is completely different, you cant compare MHz like that.

That 100Mhz on the core isn't going to make that much of a difference, maybe 1-2fps at most.

Memory clock also won't make a difference as the 512bit bus on the 290X will still produce more bandwidth then the 780.
