hi guys,

right, i have a dell inspiron 1501 with the above cpu it is a dual core 1.6ghz but mine only seems to be running at 800mhz in cpuz can anyone help, i have looked onto the power now thing on the internet and downloaded the monitor which says its maximising battery life but there are no options to turn it off, is there any software on the internet to turn it off or change that settings?

cheers

download a program like superpi or prime 95, run the program at the same time as CPUz and this shuld show the processor speeding up because it working at Loaded speed, cpuZ will only show IDLE speed if it is the only program running.

I have looked at about 50 laptops this weekend, I have £600 to spend and I cannot make up my mind what to get!!

thanks m8 ive done super pi no difference still at 800mhz

Check in your control for an application called Powergear, that program is used by Asus and others to control power management with Turion laptops.

ok done it, got several more processor drivers until i found the correct one, now can any of you guys help me with my ati graphics card, save making a new thread, basicly im running a realy old version of CCC 1.2 :o i tried upgrading to 7.1 vbut it wouldnt open for some reason, the reason i want to do this is because it wont let me change the UMA buffer size from 16mb to 256mb, everytime i change it it says restart so i do and its back to 16mb, anyone help.

edit graphics is xpress 1150 integrated 512mb hypermemory

lol classic

These look like nice lappys though. How are you finding it other than the self imposed problems? :p
:o , its a great lappy imo just the little things that have annoyed me, they have dropped several things off of this model compared with the intel version, for example the front media keys, althought it has way better on board graphics as my brother has the equvilant intel version and mine runs games much better, fyi get the 9 cell batttry if u order one 5 hours it lasts

ive got one too, I agree they are good laptops, especially for the price. Mines got the same processor too, haven't tested the battery life out yet but its quick enough, got the 1 gig ram upgrade on mine for free as they were doing an offer.

I recomend you don't run 'core temp' on a 1501...I did on mine and whilst it was running the laptop would shut itself off completely....once I had stopped running it the random switching off stopped all together...just FYI.

What games have you tried on it? Ive only tried SoF2 and obviously that runs sweet as its such an old game...but any new games? if so do they run smoothly?

Thanks,
ghgh

Nope have you?

Mine is still exactly the same as it came, apart from I uninstalled the ISP software that the manufacturer installed..all my drivers are the same and so is the ATi control centre.

Its very promising that it can run FarCry....the graphics can't be as bad as I thought they would be before I purchased it. :)

Thats not as bad as it sounds IMO, as a ti4200 like my old one would get a similar score and that could play new ish games but not at a good resolution and obviously not max detail....however the 3dmark01 score I got was VERY poor, 4000 LOL. I think the newer benchmarks give a fairer example of the graphical performance of these units, even if they're still poor lol. Any games that it can play is a bonus for me as I only bought it for office/internet use and didn't even think it would play a game other than solitare/hearts.
