Amd v Intel

ok i see thanks very much for explaining that, i kind of got the impression Asus were pretty good motherboards i occasionally design pcbs, must say their boards are extremely well designed and components they use are not cheap rubbish, especially the capacitors they use, though for a multi layer board they are pretty thin,

most 2 layer boards are 1.6mm thick, their boards are close to that being id say 4 layers which is pretty amazing they really mush shift a lot of boards to turn a profit

Yeah, with Intel boards you're generally fine with cheaper components. It's as Avenged7Fold said, the 8 core FX CPUs put big demands on the board. Asus's 6+2 design is much better than most other 8+2 designs. I've seen plenty of people get to 4.7-4.8GHz on the 970 board, which is pretty impressive for a board under £100. You'd be lucky to get more than 4.2-4.3GHz on the cheaper ones. If you want really high clocks you need something like the Sabertooth or Crosshair Formula Z.

Based on what your asking, yes the AMD CPU will perform great for your needs but on a performance to performance basis the Intel CPU S***s all over the AMD one. Its not just about cores (And you'll be lucky to find an application outside of video encoding that uses ALL cores). However on a fixed limited budget you wont worry about that the AMD will do you just fine, cost a lot less and give you more money to play around with on a GPU.

a kind sales person was kind enough to reccomend me an intel cpu / motherboard, then i came across this cpu and on the face of it looks very competitive much better than the intel 4 core which was more expensive

question is do i go for amd higher speck / lower cost or intel lower speck higher cost, im kind of wanting to get an amd dut to cost and better performance, or are amd cpus's poor quality?

be great if i could get this cpu and an compatable m/board for under £200

OP are you upgrading from the system in your sign?

If you are, you would be better of just upgrading to a 2nd hand i7 860/870 (£70-£80) on your existing motherboard. It would be faster than the FX8 in software and games that use 4 cores or less, around equal in things that use 6 cores, and tiny bit slower in things that use 8 cores.
 
I love the sabertooth line cause it usually is good value and superb quality. It saved my x58 platform when my gigabyte didnt want to work after just over a year(abselutely hate gigabyte, failed x58, failed 990fx, 2 failing gtx 560 ti's). Now running a sabertooth for my fx-8350 and man is it going..doesnt care about power draw or anything just rock solid and stable. I am as close to becoming a fanboy for that model(sabertooth in general) as you can get due to the pricing and quality of the product.

Seriously considering getting a board+8320+ram, are there any boards on par with the sabretooth sub £100? I see Asus do a nice one for ~ £90.

well, my current board/cpu has a fault i brought it second hand not sure which is at fault the cpu or motherboard, it keeps on freezing all new equipment except for the cpu/motherboard so had to send it back

wish i had just brought these had a look at a few reviews on you-tube really slating this cpu, saying intel is much better i really dont know what to do now

im really not going to be messing with anything really just keeping everything stock

Ignore youtube reviews, not just for CPUs but for everything. Tis the land of the uninformed, the biased, the fanboy, the person seeking fame through overstatement etc.

The 8320 isn't the best CPU you can buy, but the price probably already gave that away to you. It is probably the best value for money CPU you can get right now though, and with a decent bit of overclocking is more than capable. As others in this thread have already been makin sure you get a board & cooler to enable the OC then you should be making a good choice.
 
hi martin im looking for new m board and cpu, my current one is faulty brought it from ebay would prefer to buy new and get a 3yr warrenty

Agh, I see now.
I skimmed as I'm passing the time on my phone on the train lol.

Fx 8320 and board aren't a bad choice at all, but id always encourage people to spend the extra on an i5.

If 200 quid is max budget, you're looking at an i5 3570k and cheap z68 board or the fx8320 and board.
