AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

I can't really see this changing until the new API's become the norm and DX12 and Vulkan are available from release on new titles rather then patched in latter down the road.

AMD hasn't forgotten DX11, and in fact spent a long time recommending it for devs who don't want to hit the metal with a lower level API like Vulkan/DX12. AMD hasn't forgotten that there are a lot of DX11 games and will be for some time.

The utilization improvements are not just to benefit DX12, but to ensure that the Vega hardware itself is better at not bottlenecking regardless of what workloads it is running. This in itself should make the hardware more efficient regardless of whether it's running DX11 or more up to date APIs.

One of the reasons that AMD is partnering with the likes of Epic and Bethseda on the low level engineering of their engines is to get exactly the sort of support you are talking about built right into the middleware, on top of the architechtural improvements in the hardware and drivers.

To my mind Vega doesn't need to excel at DX11 but it does need to achieve a certain standard because that is the dominant PC gaming API atm.

So frustrating to be in the dark about this, Nvidia have started taking orders on 1080Ti now, each one a potential lost sale and re-balancing of the high end GPU market.

Yer, just been looking at that and a 3570K kicking its butt in games isn't good. Hopefully Vega will have a better showing!

Depends on who you look at.

Legit reviews posted this in their comments section of their review.

The sad part for me is that the Windows CPU drivers, UEFI bios were not ready, and in a month most people will not see that review. That the games were not optimized was expected, most of them are probably using at max 2-4 cores, and maybe some Intel compiler cheat magic on some libraries is still there.

I really wish the Windows drivers were ready before we were given the parts to review. Instead we got a statement 24 hours before launch from AMD saying that they'll be coming in 30 days if all goes well. Game optimizations will be hit or miss when they come, but they appear to be coming. That takes time though and we'll see what happens.

I put it in the conclusion on the last page. The quote came direct from AMD's John Taylor. There was talk of it coming with Ryzen 5 and then they said 'in the next month' in an official statement that was e-mailed out last night.

Just recalling Fury and 980Ti situation. On paper an equal product, in reality it took two years to reach same performance.
And Vega is in a worse position, because Pascal simply clocks better.

How can we possibly know that Pascal clocks better than Vega? It's a completely new architiecture.

EDIT: Forget this I've now seen the later posts.

It will be just like Ryzen with many excuses. It will good for development purpose but it will be a lackluster in gaming ,this is the reason why AMD is so much focused on developers rather than gamer with VEGA.

They have given up on high end market period.

They have given up on high end market due.

So Vega which is a high end part says to you that AMD have given up on the high end. That makes no sense to me and i am sure many others.

It might be a high-end part, but whos to say its going to have high-end performance, just look at Ryzen.
Ryzen is actually very good when you compare for similar priced intel products, but for gaming for us it definitely needs some work. I heard there will be some windows fixes coming, but for me I am waiting until 7nm Zen+ to upgrade anyway, by then they will likely be a lot closer. Until then I am more than happy with my nearly 4 year old 4.7GHz Haswell which kicks butt :D

From what I reading with reviews regarding Ryzen it performs better or closer to the 7770k when RAM speed is higher and resolution is 1440p plus
Won't be an issue for me, never going back from 2160p, that is where all the eye candy is at :p

I am confident they will have all the kinks ironed out by Zen+ anyway :D

Yeah over the weekend am going to have a better read, but over in the CPU section people are noticing smoother Frame rates from Ryzen. Also just seen why 1080p might be under performing in some games.
I see Ryzen has a future product that I feel will out last the 7770k and its this reason am confident enough I'll be picking one up soon.

Definitely. The way I see it is when I upgrade in a year or two I want 8 cores at least, and I ain't paying intel silly moneys for it. My next CPU upgrade is likely to last me 5 years so Ryzen fits the bill nicely. By the time 7nm Zen is out I am expecting they will get clocks up more and IPC, so I will get better core for core performance than what I have, but with double the cores. And the best part? Not have to pay 1000+ quid for it, but less than half that!! :D

With 7nm Zen I see 10 or more cores being available also :p

I predict Vega will have great hardware but AMD will launch it in a rush with a some issue, software problem or something that that they have missed and say it will be fixed at some point.

Enthusiasts will give AMD some leeway as we know what they are like,ie,the card will deliver in the end,but normal gamers will think meh and just get an Nvidia card.

For a company full of such clever people, they cannot do a launch to save their lives and its fast becoming a problem.

Got to agree. They're not doing themselves any favours with these launches. Initial impressions are critical.

I do understand to launch a product worldwide is a massive undertaking but it seems that Ryzen should have been delayed, probably impossible though.
Maybe they should consider staggered launches, US first, Europe then Asia etc.

Spot on, I love them all, and we need them for competition; but bloody hell can they stumble in what should be their moment of triumph.

+1 great hardware but each launch seems to have at least one negative to drag it down.
