AMD working with a major developer to create a never-before-seen DirectX® 11 technology.

You can read back a page or two to see this point countered.

You're still completely missing the point.

Doubt much is missing the point on the different tactics employed-forced or optional, which can account for some of the hate directed, but evidently completely goes over the head of some.

Anyway, as you've now brought it back full circle and we're covering the same points I think the discussion has probably run its course and it should revert to topic as requested by Jokester :)

Agree with you there.:)

Something that only amd cards can use I hope.

Benefits no one in the long run, what an odd thing to hope for

+1, or we will end up with another physX type api that cuts out at least half a user base.

chances are not many games will ever use it.

May be compute based and hopefully doesn't take a huge hit on fps?

The 79's are strong in compute and with the 8 series round the corner compute is probably getting a wee boost too.

Hopefully it's not a song and dance about nothing as AMD are great at that:(, and benefits all.

I hope our Accelero works with the 8970 just in case, you know. ;)

It would be a foolish upgrade though when my 7970 still runs everything with ease at 1125/1563 but you know how it is once a new amd gpu hits the market. :D

Saying that though, inflated prices will keep me away until it drops to around £300-£350 i reckon.

Am I right in thinking, no one has actually posted what this never-before-seen DirectX® 11 technology is yet.

DirectX11 Evolved ™. You heard it here first.

;)

Ok I get it.

But I hope what ever is it is optimised to run better on AMD cards... nvidicrap can use it but wont run as well.

Thatl teach um!

Btw the term nvidicrap was actually a word my note 2 replaced nvidia with.. LOL

Hopefully it will, my AC 5870 Extreme has went from a 5870>6950>7950(with a shim and a new mounting plate direct from AC), that cooler has done me proud considering it's running 24/7 coming up on 3 years.:D

It will probably sit on Nvidia gpu's too with a new plate if needed too, so your options are open.

If it's a 15-20% increase, then I don't think I'm getting anything, but I always get itchy myself, although anything over £350 won't be getting bought next time, unless it's really special.:D

DirectX11 Evolved ™

Certainly sounds the part matt, you might be on to something there.

AMD won an award for the Never Settle campaign, so hopefully the marketing/PR squad is on the ball to raise the profile and get closer to team green in that regards, as they trail the big green guy by miles when it comes to advertising.

Matt / Tommy.

Don't know if i will be upgrading when they are out, even if they are really good.

I promised i would keep this one for more than a year, possibly 2, i can't keep burning money just because i'm addicted to shiny things and that new smell.

This one will continue to perform solidly at 1080P through 2013, i'm satisfied with it, or am i just lying to myself?

I'm actually more partial to a fresh CPU at the moment, but i'm not quite satisfied enough with the FX-8350 to swap it for my 1090T, and no way am i forking out £400 on an Intel conversion just to see similarly little benefit with anything that i do on my PC.

@humbug,

but do you 'need' faster or is it playable for you?

Selling on your Cpu/MB@~£100 and putting that towards a 25/700K and your talking £150-£200 depending on cpu/MB choice, that's half the price of your estimate.

Kept my 69's for ~18 months and gave in to the itch for new toys in the end, 'I couldny take it capn' any more and gave in to the shiny shiny urge.

:)

Other than Skyrim, where i'm still getting 50+ FPS, and i always play games with vSync on to stop screen tearing... there is only one game where my CPU is throttling my GPU, and that is Planet Side 2, where it can go as low as 40+ when the going gets really hard, which to me, while perfectly smooth, is not ideal, but talking to a couple of guys who run overclocked Intel i5 / i7's they are only getting about 50 FPS at the same time.

PS2 is getting an update that's supposed to fix the performance problems everyone gets, we will see.

But other than that, the 7870 with the x6 1090T can eat anything that's thrown at it, even crysis 2 DX11 completely and utterly maxed out is 'while not perfect', pretty good.

So there is nothing for me that i can make better, really. tho, i have had this CPU for more than 2 years, so as i'm sure you can understand :D i have an incredible itch that i need to scratch, but how do i scratch it and will i feel better for it?
Probably not.

I also have an Asus Sabertooth Motherboard, if i'm going to replace it with an Intel it will only be the Intel Sabertooth or better, which is £180, its a kind of snobbery, having something like that, when i look inside my case now i see it gleaming at me in all of its brown glory, steeping down from its TUF 10 + 2 Phase VRM's and all that.... is not really something i want to do, which means it gets pretty expensive.

SSD, Humbug? :)

If you already have one, is there anything else where the money would be better spent on? The rest of your rig sounds more than good enough.

Have a Samsung 830, but it is only 128GB, which as it turns out is not even close to enough :o 70% of my Games are on the slow grinding mechanical drive.

Yeah, I've got a 128gb M4, and even though I don't have high requirements for storage, I'm seriously considering a 256 or greater for my next purchase. I've even thought about one of those hybrid drives? :)

I guess it depends on how many games you wish to have installed. Some of the mods I play require a fair bit of storage; my internet connection is 8mb, which I'm quite happy with. Some of the time, 128 is fine, but there has been times when I've had to make room for something.

I have 64GB left and a few games installed as it is, my OS and all my programs.

I mean I've done it before when I was using a mechanical as my games drive, would just install at will but never play.

So now just do a few games at a time.

Weirdos :p:D

:D

I go through periods where I have little more than one or two games installed, but now and then it would be nice, as well as practical, to have that bit extra of surplus space.

I even considered going back to a 'fast' mechanical drive, but I soon rejected that idea after having nightmares. :D

Some worthwhile Dx11 content would be nice. I recently switched Far Cry 3 back to Dx9 after playing the full game on Dx11 and it looks . . . pretty much identical to me.
