Hi all,

Don't laugh, I have a 6 year old AMD X2 4400 system, 2GB RAM with a DFI LANPARTY NF4 Ultra MOBO.

Is there an easy way to get a bit more speed out of my processor safely?

If so, any links or advice would be appreciated. I'm a muppet in terms of overclocking, never done it before so some tips would be appreciated.

You can get plenty out of that setup. It was a very common setup among overclockers.

You're perhaps best to do a little research, read the sticky on this forum would be a good place to start. Takes things slowly at first and only move forward when you feel you know a little more about what you are doing. OVerclocking is not dangerous as long as you don't take things too far. How far is too far is a question nobody can answer ;).

However, most on here will be happy to help once you start having difficulties.

One thing I remember you had to do was to make sure the HTT speed was kept at or about 2000 when clocking an X2 4400. You will see a multiplier in the bios of the HTT, multiply the fsb by this multiplier and that is what your HTT speed will be. The stock will be 5x200, so if you overclock fsb to 250 you need to drop the HTT multi to 4x.

I have literally just reassembled a system with the exact same spec with an 8800GTX as a pc for my nephew to replace his pc was gave up the ghost recently. This used to be my main pc two systems ago and I had it clocked to 2.75GHz, though I've now reset everything to stock as I had to put it in a more compact(hotter) case and I don't want it locking up and me having to go across to sort it out all the time. It will be a damn sight faster than his old system, also made of cast offs of mine, 8RDA+, XP1800 and GF Ti500. The 8RDA+ was my favourite ever motherboard btw, a bit sad it has now finally died.

Before I reset everything I think I had the fsb at 246 x11, vcore at about 1.4V with a Scythe Ninja cooler. NB volts was 1.8, Dram at 2.9. Memory was DDR400 so the memory divider was set at 5:6. HTT multi was 4x.

There used to be a forum called DFI-Street which was excellant for advice on overclocking the Ultra-D, not sure if it still going though.
