Hi all,

I heard vague rumnours that you need to install additional "drivers" (for want of a better word) if you install an X2. I've just bought an X2 4800+ (AM2, running WinXP) so its quite relevant to me.

Any of you smart people know the answers?

Cheers

im running Vista Ultimate

do i still need to use the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer ?

it will be a straight swap with no reformat involved.

Vista Ultimate has great driver update support, I'm near sure it will alert you to the driver if its needed. Though you would think X2 support would be standard in any Vista o/s.

There was a little more to the X2 driver install than I thought originally. This covers it very nicely.

I installed that ms patch on my system and it screwed up the system. Without it my system works fine, just use the amd driver and optimiser along with adding the /pmtimer switch to the boot.ini in xp
