It looks like the $300 5600X can't quite keep up with the $300 3700X in productivity tasks.

It's not a "clean" generational jump to me if the money spent on a new gen part isn't faster *at all tasks* than the same money spent on the previous generation.

The gaming improvements are impressive, and might justify the price for some people, but I think the price needs to come down about $50 on the 5600X.

You do know that the 3700x has 2 extra cores, right? In productivity tasks that take advantage of those additional cores you would expect the 3700x to win. I think that considering that the 5600x is being marketed as a gaming CPU and nothing else, and it beats a £500+ Intel while doing so, the price is still reasonable enough to make it a worthwhile purchase.

The ingredients are not my concern. I give them money. They give me performance.

$300 Zen 3 dollars game better than $300 Zen 2 dollars....Good...heck, even great.
$300 Zen 3 dollars are slower in productivity tasks than $300 Zen 2 dollars....bad. Close, so not a train wreck, but still lacking.

AIO ready to go. Weighs a ton, build quality is excellent. Craps on any Corsair/NZXT unit.

Wow.. love it!! Perfect for my case... Factal Define S2. Love those 14mm arctic fans... Best 1400mm fan on the market price performance.

Beats 10700k and with Overclock has almost the same performance of the 3700x in those tasks.

Zen3 unlike zen2... there are gains with overclock.

The IPC increase of the 5600x almost allows it to catch the 3700x.
Lots of games sadly are like that.
Do we need 160 fps for red dead :D

It depends - some of the older games/those based on older engines didn't seem to get updates despite being semi-actively developed for. Despite Zen2 theoretically being able to kick Intel's arse,it didn't. If you look at some of the reviews,in some games Zen3 should be way ahead, but it isn't and you can instantly see the dev CBA. Its annoying these companies CBA to push out updates for certain games.

I think things will change with the consoles though - wait until games have to be developed for Zen,and we should even see Zen2 holding its own longterm, just like the R9 290 series did.

Well, looking at some prices near me:

2600x $172 6c 12t
2700x $234 8c 16t
3600x $284 6c 12t
5600x $385 6c 12t
3700x $395 8c 12t
5800x $573 8c 12t
3900x $575 12c 16t
5900x $854 12c 16t
3950x $890 16c 32t
5950x $1046 16 32t

Not sure how well 6c12t will age, probably the value option will be 2700x more so with newer games being "ryzen aware" since that's in the consoles.

If amd>intel previously, then 3xxx series (and sometimes even 2xxx), sure does offer some nice options. Owning a 2600x, can't say I find any of these ones attractive, quite the opposite. Same in the GPU space.

5800x looks a bit toasty?!? are we seeing better fps lows on the 5800x compared to 5900x due to single CCX? also do we think 5600x throttles less than 5800x, seen it beat it in few benches wondering if this due to extra heat or just margin of error. Just catching up on discussion. Cheers

I'm sure I did see one that said the 5600x does hold onto higher clocks longer.

I feel the same as a Ryzen 5 2600 owner, but have seen some deals for the Ryzen 7 3700X which places it below the Ryzen 5 5600X pricing.
