When looking at the different memory sticks, the 3200mhz have CAS 16-18-18-38 timings where the 3600mhz got 18-22-22-42 timings. As I understand it lower CAS is better?

So what do you guys think, trying to help my brother spec an upgrade:
4000MHz (for 2000 IF) with C18
OR 3600MHZ C14. Pricing is not all that dissimilar.
The C14 seems like a real nice compromise of performance and latency, and should be lower latency, but 1900-2000 IF if chip is up to it could make some substantial improvements I'd guess also!
We really need some more memory/IF deep dives with Zen 3, as seems like the bottlenecks present previously have been alleviated, so the CPU has more room to stretch its legs if memory allows!
I noted GN used 3200@C14, so 3600@C14 should be even better, higher bandwidth, effectively lower latency, higher IF which is all but guaranteed to work...

I've should've clarified that I was posting about the average performance across a number of games from a couple of sites I checked from the review thread but I sure cant cope only getting 300 fps instead of 400+ fps.
Viper 4400 c19 or ripped 3600 c14. Wouldn't expect 3600 c14 without a lot of messing and high volts, which if I upgrade is why I'd go 3600 c16 on those kits at 1.38v and just be done with it after stress testing once thoroughly. Unlikely at 32gb anyway (advertised). Note promoted kits say guaranteed but not for 4*8 and the voltage is spread. Wouldn't want 1.5v daily and in summer long term.
Are they are both b-die 1.35 volts?

Thanks, was the RIPPED/8Pack stuff in both cases I was looked at; looked a nice balance of memory and guaranteed clocks/latency once sufficient voltage applied, without getting stupidly expensive
Will take a look at the Viper Steel 4400 C19 as had missed that set, getting towards the high side of the pricing scale for my brother but not ridiculous and sounds like a great bin.
If it was MY rig, I'd likely have gone for the Viper for tweaking, my brother may feel more comfortable with the 3600C14 for built in profiles.

Was the 8Pack Ripped 3600 C14 and the "8pack edition" 4000C18, so believe both will be Bdie, that said the Ripped stuff I believe advised it'll likely need 1.4v. The 4000C18 is obviously a bit weaker latency wise, but the potential 2000 IF clock, and its actually surprisingly cheap for such a high speed kit, still only at C18.

3600/14 would more than likely do 4000/16 whereas 4000/18 may not.
I was running 4690k and 2080 with literally everything on "low" in Overwatch and was averaging about 200fps.
This week I'm completing my build with a 5600x and a 3070 (arriving in 30 mins).
That seems about right for a 4690k.

Thought as much, I'll steer him towards the 4400C19 or the 3600C14.
Would be going for 2x8GB as he doesn't want/need 32GB right now. I already steered him towards 32GB but he seems adamant on 16GB....which is fine as then I can steer towards tighter timings/higher speed, and it should be more achievable.
If he changes his mind on 32GB well, will go from there

32GB 4x8GB 3600MHz C14 runs fine on my X570 Aorus Master.
well top of the line Mobo.. with very good memory traces :X. But at those frequencies normally runs everywhere.
Memory depends a lot on your mobo.. PCB Layers, etc. The B550 Aorus Master for example is a monster in memory overclock.. probably even better than yours.

Are you suggesting AMD is sending samples to anyone who want to try it out? Even so, I can't, AMD has learned from the competition on how to be pro consumer (/s), and until a BIOS is available for my x470 board, is not possible. Not that I'm in a hurry considering the prices.
It’s a pretty old game, I’m sure it will be fine. Most games a GPU bound anyway in the real world so most of the benchmarks I have seen are pointless because no one runs 1080P medium with a 3090. Hell no one should be running a 3090, save your money for next gen!
If your spending that much money, it’s PCMR max settings or no settings
Most doesn't equal to all. Is a highly depending on the CPU/RAM, struggling to keep 60fps.
while I don’t disagree, there is only one game where that’s an issue (FS2020). If you don’t play that game you can get reasonable performance with pretty much anything from a 3300X paired with a GPU from that tier to create a well balanced system. E.g. your not going to pair a 3300x with a 3090, 8gb ram, spinning rust and call it good.

Depends what you play, at what settings you play and how content you're with certain results. I play on triple screen, so that means higher FoV, high stress on the CPU ( probably close to 3 times the normal work load of a standard 16:9) and there are quite a few games that while the GPU could handle it, is limited by the CPU (or rather the poor optimization): Fallout 4, Watch Dogs 2, Metro Exodus, FS2020, ArmA, Far Cry, etc.
System is 2600x + rtx2080, 32gb ram, 5760x1080 res.
So to have everything smoother and upgrade would do fine, so I'm just checking reviews on what will be the best option - besides gaming I also use Lightroom a lot, plus some video editing stuff (rarely).
Just watched this. Lucky I got a 4x8 kit. Just need to attempt to tighten timings when I get there in a few months.
He can't prove that it doesn't come from the capacity alone. Why didn't he test vs 2x16GB?
