Amending app data via macbook

so previously when I have changed phones etc, I will back up my phone, fresh install on the new phone before copying data files (app preferences etc) via something like Imazing. changing stuff over to my iPhone 11 Pro and it won't let me copy the files on to my new phone.

have apple stopped you from being able to amend the data files this way?

Why don't you just back up and then restore on the new phone?

Sounds unnecessarily complicated. Just restore the new iPhone from either an iCloud or computer based backup.

If you move the new phone near the old one, you get the option to clone. Job done, surely?

when I have copied or restored from back ups previously, it wouldn't keep some of the preferences for apps. so rather than go through each app and make sure they were all on the same settings/preferences, I found it quicker just to copy the setting data manually. will just let it copy across and see how it goes but wanted to know incase I had to revert back to 'the old ways'
