American Airlines CRJ700 crash in DC

People need to understand how hard it is to actually get an ATC job. Way back when I gave it a thought, really researched all the requirements and restrictions and my god its like mission impossible in terms of jobs, I actually think becoming a Dr is easier. Then you have the fact that its in DC airspace which is also going to add to the difficulty in securing work there. Its not as if you just pass a test and get the keys to some of the busiest routes in the world.

Trump is just pushing his narrative to his lap dogs..its what was voted for unfortunately.

Have you tried being black/gay/trans and/or disabled? Apparently Obama was handing out ATC jobs like candy in Harlem.

It's genuinely insane that something that should be political suicide has become just another day in the office.

Trump's narrative is only pushed if you have a diet from a social media silo ...
meanwhile r4 had an interview with atc controllers and pilots familiar with Reagan airport saying exceptional use of runway 33 by black hawk and airliner then having to cross the river is always risky.

Trumps agenda was broadcast live on the BBC, that is where I listened to it. I’m glad the news host instantly explained how unusual and likely false it was and that they are balancing it out with sensible content but sadly too many people will just lap up the nonsense.

We had Boris et al so let's not throw stones

Just saw on Sky News a guy whose wife was on the plane texted him saying she would be landing in 20 minutes.
Couldn't help but think why she had her phone on given were always told to turn our phones off or put them on flight mode while the aircraft is air bourne.

American Airlines have onboard wifi.

Most airlines only ask you to turn them off for take off and landing these days with an increasing number allowing them at all times. This definitely isn’t a factor in todays accident.

Don't think people understand what DEI is, it's actually dangerous (see Boeing). The bar is lowered to make job entry easier, thereby increasing the pool of minority applicants, so in turn companies prioritize diversity over merit. So this sidelines more qualified candidates from other demographics, which includes whites. So by lowering standards you now have a risk of accidents or decreased efficiency in roles requiring high precision or expertise.

Although I will say I disagree with Trump being so quick to say that this was the cause before knowing what has happened

I had to google what an air traffic controller makes. 40-50k a year is not worth it when you have literal lives in the grasp of your hand. No wonder there is a shortage. The training is 2-3 years on top of that and it isn't a job that anyone can do. You have to be quite intelligent and be able to think and act quickly.

40-50k isn't true at all.

Not that we want a replica of SC but it’s being reported by democrats that with the help of Trump, Musk pushed out the head of the air safety because he wanted to fine SpaceX.

i don’t think this one can get swept under the carpet easily.

So it was trump's fault.... My god my ride to work is gonna be smug tomorrow
Not sure anyone has said that, however pre-empting an investigation and apportioning blame certainly doesn't seem very respectful of the people who lost their lives, or their families, especially when some of their bodies haven’t even been recovered from the freezing waters of the Potomac yet.

And that's to say nothing of how apportioning blame seems to be contrary to supposedly wanting to heal a divided nation.

While this is unlikely to have made a difference in this particular incident (his recent BS might have meant they were short staffed who knows), it'll increase the chances of this kind of thing happening again. Sadly he'll probably just pull a TikTok ban and hire some ringkisser to the position he just got rid of and make himself look like the hero to his room temperature IQ cultists.

Back on topic.

I can’t believe in this day and age, that this sort of accident can happen. One would assume that many electronic protections would kick in.

RIP to all of those who lost their lives.

I'm a year or 2's time this will be a documentary on channel 5.

Trump should not be apportioning blame certainly not before the investigation.

He blamed ATC when I heard it on the radio, and that poor guy has to live with this incident and knowing how mental Americans are the atc guy could be hunted down based on trump's word.

I find it all very bizarre.

Rip to those that lost their lives in such tragic circumstances.

If it's deemed the military fault be prepared for it to be swept under the carpet and a scape goat found.

DEI does not mean hiring unqualified people.

It is meant to mean you give everyone who meets the qualifications a chance, unfortunately for some that meant the inferior candidate didn't get the job just because they went to the right school. You don't need to be able to run 100 meters in 12 second to work at an office desk, nor do you need to be of the highest IQ to do many of the largely physical jobs that the FAA has. The FAA is a lot more than the ATC, and IIRC there is zero reason someone who works in a modern ATC couldn't for example be in a wheelchair if they can reach everything on the boards and get to the control room.

Boeing's problem is that they basically said profit was more important than safety and engineering, nothing to do with DEI, but the fact they moved from having most of the senior staff coming up from a background that understood aircraft and engineering to senior staff who were pretty much from the "right" business schools and no understanding of why in aviation you don't try to save every cent you can or settle on a design or material that isn't what the engineers recommend. Apparently Boeing used to be the gold standard for aviation engineers with pay and benefits to match, these days apparently some of the auto repair shops are paying better.
I've seen it said by a lot of people who worked with both Boeing and McDonnel Douglass (I think it was) before Boeing bought them out, that it was like the McDonnel management who killed their company with safety errors etc ended up running Boeing.

I think it's probably both but at the highest levels , 100% profit driven and a nepotistic joke.

The world should be a meritocracy at all levels. Doesn't matter about race, gender, age etc.
