@ mavers, you could have fought the $40 fine if you were to take it to court. A polite judge might dismiss it as you are not native, and there's always the chance the officer won't show up to back up the charges anyway.

Was driving with a friend, so even though it was my fault we split it 20 each.
didnt even think of contesting it as it was a small amount...

The ticket I'm not disputing, I agree ignorance is not an excuse (albeit better signed, probably true in many cases), my 'beef' is with the blatant lying tow-van-man.

Oddly I think ignorance is a defence in this case. It is a parking restriction that wasn't marked, and doesn't apply all teh time, 'just when games are on'. In a similar situation in the UK, they would have palced cones in the area, they certainly do that in NI, they will place police cones with the no parking symbol on them prior to the time of the game, often the night before.


As for dodgy boy, sounds like a parking clamper here They'll extract as much from you as they possible can, end of story.
