Ok... so basically... the wife will be going ahead of me and sorting all the Visa stuff out, and I'll be back here paying the bills and going to medical checks etc I expect.

So... the scenerio is... given the rig in my sig... what would you do? Take the hardware with me or sell it all and buy new stuff out there? My move will not likely be until April. I'm thinking ditch the case, and possibly take the cpu/motherboard/ram?

Please bear in mind I don't know of any decent forums like OcUK has, and that will have such a fab members market. (I'll be in the P.A. area btw).

Well I would say take the monitor, but can you guarantee it will arrive without being smashed right up?

Pc will probably work fine if your power supply accepts 110-230v auto switching but don't know if you monitor will run under 110v, I would sell and buy when over there as component prices are so much cheaper than in the UK.

I wouldn't likely take the monitor I don't think. I really like it but too much of a risk to try and transport I'd imagine. To be honest, I'd actually forgotten about the monitor lol.

Yay!!! new stuff for the members market:D

:D ROFL. It will be a while yet yah ol' scavenger!! ;-)

(I won't mention the 42" plasma etc lol). But seriously.. I just wanted opinions, as I may struggle to find such a decent community for parts.

You could do with a sandy upgrade :p
And something that costs £300 here is $300 there so you wont take such a ridiculously large hit financialy

i took a pc back from canada via the us - i would never ever recommend to anyone to carry a big box of wires through us airport security!!

This is also something I've been thinking about, as I have routers/cat5 cables etc that I may want to keep but thinking of just car booting it, as I'm not keen on getting myself searched for several hours for simple cables.

Is the OP going into the mining business?

lol, just lol.

it wasn't really that bad, no cavity searches anyway, just taken to a small room and asked to open the bag it was in, and then open up the case etc - was just the time taken! I did have a monitor well packed in the middle of my checked bag which was totally fine!

Realised there is no point taking my router... being 240v lol. Will get those up on members market in next two months I guess.

Bah.. all my cables and random gathered 'useful bits' I had hoarded! lol
