Americas Army Proving Grounds Thread

This is only the case for private servers if they've change the config file to change the rules.

For public servers you can only camp it and make sure they don't plant it. You can only defuse the bomb after it's planted.

During the first year of the beta the server-wide rule was that you can defuse it if the enemy team drops it. For whatever reason, I have no idea why since the original rule forces people to play the objective, they changed it so that you can't defuse it (at least on the official public servers). Some clan servers have kept the original game rule.

O thanks :D I thought I did see a team mate defuse the dropped bomb. This rule change is great.

actually like the sound of that rule before they changed it - would stop (or maybe help stop) the bomb carrier yoloing off on their own.

in theory it would force the bomb team to act as a team and protect the bomb carrier

Anything like the original AA?

I played 2.6 and from what I've tried there's no jumping? I haven't played this latest version but I played the previous version and it's a major difference. Some servers you can revive teammates, but overall it feels like a different game.

It's not too bad once you get used to it. Took me a week to get back up to scratch on playing the same map over and over.

I would say they have taken many of the good things from the original AA, and brought in some things from games like BF and COD to make it a bit more fluid.
Although AA2 is still my favourite ever game, having played it again recently, it feels like running through treacle.

There are still a few features they really need to bring back (VIP mode, squads), they are getting there, and with some of the great minds playing with the editor, the community may bring these things in before the devs do (someone has already created a co-op with AI mode from scratch).

I played the original AA to death back when I was about 11. It was an amazing game for the time, some of the maps were outstanding. I think it all went down hill from there, 2.0 came out and the game just started dying.

I wouldn't say AA2 was any less popular than AA1, it just had a different play style.
AA1 was all about large maps, with most of the team using M16 with a couple of SAW and a couple of snipers. Rounds would often last the full 8-10 minutes
When AA2 came out the maps got generally smaller, and most people had M4 with ACOG. Rounds normally finished well before the time ran out.

AA3 was what killed the franchise. Although there were some good points (some of which have been brought into AA:PG), overall it was shocking.

I guess when I said the original AA I meant 2.0, since 2.x was the last time I remember it being "good". Might check it out but have a feeling it wont be the same.
