Hi all,

Recently got the A1200 back out and hooked it up to a 1080p Sony LCD I’ve got via an RGB scart cable and the picture looked pretty bad…”warbly” is the best way I can describe it :p

Turning off most of the post processing features seemed to help a little bit but it still wasn’t great…

What is everyone else doing or what would you recommend as the best option? Should I track down an Amiga monitor? A CRT TV? Or am I just doing something daft?

Scott

The Amiga needs certain (15khz) monitors because of it's PAL and/or NTSC output - trying to connect it to a regular PC VGA CRT is setting yourself up for a world of pain.

Haven't tried this myself but I *believe* what you want is an RGB to Component adaptor (for the best quality) then something like a RetroTink to get an HDMI output.

Best place to ask would be the EAB forums: https://eab.abime.net

Thanks all, I wasn’t aware of that 15khz requirement so I think I’ll just track down a CRT for it…will certainly be more authentic that way :)
Some of the 15Khz LCD monitors are good and some bad. Dont get one with slow response time or there will be nasty ghosting.

Benq BL702 is quite a good one. Think i’ve got mine still somewhere… or as suggested, a good old CRT :)

I bought my 702 off eBay but the guy posted it in… a sainsburys plastic bag and nothing else! It arrived with the bezel cracked and rattled when i tipped it up/down.

Surprisingly it still works, I let the guy know and he fully refunded me and told me to keep it. I managed to superglue some of the bezel together but guess it could fail at any time.

Really, i dont know how it didnt arrive fully smashed up the way it way ‘packaged’ - orange bag with sellotape around!

I’ll dig it out later and see if it still works

That's crazy. My 1084S arrived with a broken door hinge. eBay wanted me to pay for return postage to Europe !?! needless to say I kept it with a minor refund but I just wanted it right. You can fix them but it's not the same.

Still works :)

I'm cheating though as use WinUAE.
I sold my Amiga a while back as WinUAE is just more convenient, much faster and cheaper. This is setup as an A1200 with hdd, RTG (Zorro III) and Workbench 3.1. Being able to select whatever hardware you want is quite a bonus... want a Blizzard or Cyberstorm accelerator board, sure just select it from a dropdown!
Similar to PCem and PC hardware - I sold up in favour of emulation because its good enough now to now have a full noisy desktop. I do still look at Amiga and PC hardware though and think, hmmm that looks nice

I've got a original Amiga tank mouse and Zipstick with USB adapters which work great

that's a nice set up, i'm thinking of selling mine to fund something else and seeing yours makes me think I could do something like this
Or this. Works really well and the controls are so versatile.

Of course there's Retroarch with Emulation Station and PUAE too but there's something nice about using Workbench and HDD is just better than floppy

Edit - Had a quick test. The trackpad and triggers work fantastic in Cannon fodder and it loads so much quicker on HDD install.

I connected my A1200 to my 60” games TV via an OSSC. I think it looked pretty good. Probably too big really.

I also have the Acorn version of the Phillips 14” RGB crt if I want to go the original route. However I find it just too small these days.

This weekend I’m going to try it with my old 20.1” NEC 20WGX2 and see if that’s a better halfway house.

The adapter arrived today so I’ll have a play with that later but I’ve managed to track down a Sony Trinitron CRT that I’m hoping to collect tomorrow evening as I think that will be the best option for me :)
