So looking to get some 2.0 bookshelf speakers and have a pair of headphones

What I'm not sure on is the amp. I'm only familiar with av receivers so no idea what to look for.

This isn't going to be high end gear

Headphones : denon d2000
Speakers: something like mission lx1 or mordant m10 (or similar )

Any suggestions?

I'm hoping I can have speakers wired in but if I want to use headphones just plug them in and it diverts

If you have an AVR already (and desk space) just use that for now and see how you get on. I'm using a Yamaha RX-V373 with Wharfedale 220's for speakers and AKG 712 Pro headphones fed from the PC via HDMI. This works really well for me - plenty of power for the speakers and headphones sound great.

What's the usage and budget you were thinking?
And those speakers you mentioned are passive and need device with amplifier for speakers.
Active monitor speakers would come with own built in amplifier and need only line level signal.
Which makes them lot easier to work with in choise of other devices/equipment.

Yeah I guess I thought you could get a small version of an av receiver that could do the job.

Active makes it a heck of a lot more difficult. May just pic up a cheap av receiver!

Budget is 150 (used)

AD18 is good from what I have seen from people who bought it. Bluetooth connection as well, which may be useful.

I've got a SMSL Q5 Pro, which is very good. No headphone output on that though, but then I didn't have a need for that. I use it downstairs with some floor standing speakers.

If you need something small, the SMSL products are a good option and offer good features for what they cost. If you're looking at amps from the well known manufacturers, then a lot of smaller form factor amps are quite costly in comparison.

A more "exotic" solution, but the one I got 1 year ago was
Burson Playmate (Headphone amp and DAC) + Burson Bang (Speakers amp).

It's been really great, amazing sound and you can customize the sound with different opamps if that's something you care about of course.

If not ... I must admit that Creative X7 Limited would be your easiest choice, even for the support you get worldwide.
