I'm visiting my brother in Holland for a few days and wlll be travelling through Amsterdam. It seems rude not to spend a day there. I last went there 10 or 15 years ago. I will be on my own and would like to see the sites again. apart from the usual naughty places where is recommended?

e.g. Anne Franks house, etc?

Thanks.

Van Gogh Museum
Anne Frank House
Pancake factory
Heineken brewery tour
Canal boat ride
Floating Chinese restaurant
Tattoo museum
The zoo is alright
Vondelpark

It really depends what youre into.. I suppose the usual suspects would be:

Rembrants House
Anne Frank House
Waterlooplein street market
Albert Cuyp straat market
Flower Market (Singel)
Rijksmuseum
Hash Museum
Sex Museum
Canal boat cruise
Banana Bar
Casa Rosso

I havent been for a few years either, but I imagine these are still the among main sights.

coffee shops and window shopping for me. cant wait to go!
car ferry, and if you book way in advance, gerstekorrel hotel can be cheap as cheese, its a hostel, but its the same quality as travelodges. expensive if you book short notice.

Thanks all. Good tip about Anne Franks house (both pre-booking tickets and abusing Bieber).

Book Anne Frank tickets online i did and you skip the cue!!

Are these collect on arrival or do I need to book weeks in advance to allow for delivery? I'm there this Friday.

Collect on arrival. I booked mine with my phone across the street.

If you're hungry and like meat head to Cafe de klos. It's a great little place with charcoal BBQs cooking huge racks of ribs with token salad and a jacket spud.

A friend took me there when I visited a few years back. It was so good.

I hear you can't buy weed in the coffee shops anymore unless you are a resident of that country - something to do with the conservative government trying to clean up the image of it being a notorious drug holiday destination.

They were planning to introduce a "wiet pas" (Weed Pass) which would only allow locals to buy, but it was thankfully scrapped for 2013.
