Hi all,

Sorry I posted a very similar thread a few weeks ago, but as search is disabled at the moment I can't find it!

We're going the dam in 2 weeks, on the 24th aug... there is LOADS of hotels to choose from, so i'm getting pretty confused! We want to be near to all the nightlife, etc... so can people give me a few names to look at?

Don't want to be spending loads, but don't want to stay in a hostel either ;)... There's 5 of us going, so £150 each for 2 nights?

Cheers.

thats quite a nice budget. Head over to www.bookings.nl and get yourself something.

I always recommend people the nh city center hotel on spuistraat as my mates used to visit me and stay there (I lived in Holland for a while). It's fairly central, in between dam square and leidseplein and a short walk from the tram stop at Spui. It means that at night you aren't in the middle of it all but if you do want to get into the middle of it.....you can :)

not a hotel, but don't forget to chill out in Lost in Amsterdam. its quality.

I stayed in the Dutch Design Hotel but its like 20mins from city centre :(

you are quite lucky to find something for 5 at this late stage in a good location.

I went with the missus last year in august to meet her brother and we ended up having to kip in his hotel room as everywhere within spitting distance of the "good" locations was booked solid.

We've found a hotel (that looks a bit crap) but is 1km away from dam square for a very cheap price!... I don't think anyone we're going with is particulary fussed as we'll just be wasted all the time and spending as little as possible time in the hotel... so does that sound OK ?

It's the hotel barbacan if that makes any difference.

I can recommend 'Hotel Quentin' on Leidserkade. Rooms are a bit shabby, but it's well priced and very friendly, with no weirdness (just 30 yards off Leidseplein, great because it's just far enough to be away from the noise but i takes 45 secs to get to it when you want to). Get a corner room with a balcony too :P, overlooking the park :).

I use the Krasnapolsky if staying in the Dam area and the NH Amsterdam Centre when staying on the Leidseplein
