Hi.
Can anyone here recommend some good hotels in Amsterdam?
Im looking for one thats near a major transport area, and/or has a transport link to the airport within a few hundred meters of it.
Only really found one, and thats near the main train station aparantely.

Thanks in advance all. :).

Old Quarter.

Or something like that. Personally I wouldn't stay in Central Amsterdam, it's overrun by tourists. But... there you go.

hotel winston is ok, overlooking some ladies of the night. It has some interesting rooms that lock you in and shutters come down. Its got a trendy bar and is quite cheap. May not be your cup of tea if your not planning going into the redlight area but its withhin walking distance of the station, ive stopped there twice BTW.

I'd prefer Hotels rarther than Hostels tbh.

Which areas have the best transport links? For example, the hotels near the station are excellent for transport to/from the airport.
Are there any other areas i should be aware of?

Hotel Prinz Hendrik is Alright. We stayed there in July and its 3 mins walk from Central Station which you can get a train to from inside the airport terminal.

everywheres good for transport. You jump on the tram and go to the main station. Walk under ground and get the train.

Ive seen one that looks good about 2mins away from central station.
Problem is that a lot of people have commented that unless you specify a bathroom that you'll just get a room with no basin or whatnot for the water in the shower to drain into! :p

Whats a good area to stay in then? As i have previously been limiting my searches to just around the station?
Somewhere with some good bars and eating places locally would be good.:).

To be fair, you can stay just about anywhere and still be into all the best places with a 10 minute tram ride. I stayed at the Golden Tulip hotel in the business district, walked pretty much everywhere and saw all the sights, after a nice brisk walk it feels even better to sit down to a nice hot coffee or cold beer.

Depends what you are going for though i suppose, lads weekend or weekend with the GF.

The Movenpick is a fairly nice hotel, 5 minute walk from the train station and also has a tram stop right outside. I haven't got time to dig out a link as im off out now, however im almost 100% sure it can be found via Expedia

Ive been told that staying round the station is a bad idea, because its quite run down?

A hotel thats been suggeted is the park hotel, located on the canal loop.
Hmm.
Gonna have to do more digging, i want to get it all booked and sorted by friday.:).
