Never got that far, begged my parents for one when my first C64 died. Even my dad was tempted at the time but my mum put a stop to it and i ended up with the 2nd gen C64 (the white one with poorer SID chip)

I also had my original C64 die and it was replaced under warranty by the angular white one with the "hissing" SID chip.

We got our A500 quite late in the day, we bought it second hand around the same time the A600 was starting to replace it. I still loved my C64 even after years of playing on friend's Amigas, and to finally have both was amazing. Even though the Amiga blew away the C64's graphics and sound, I am still convinced some games played better on C64 - Rainbow Islands comes to mind.

Ah I miss hanging out with mates waiting for double dragon to load, also nipping to the newsagents to scope out the latest edition of "Crash" magazine for its speccy demos tape sellotaped to the cover.

I also miss heading round to my mates who had the amiga 500 on release, truly awe inspiring days. He also got the cd rom and flyer hdd upgrade that stuck out the side. Micro machine marathons and James Pond challenges all night long.

Can't comment, i'm not old.
Then I'm afraid you really did miss out! :)

Star Raiders on the 800 was epic :)

My mate had the C64 and I had the Speccy - my mate was round mine playing the Speccy way more than I was round his, so I vote Speccy purely for all the games it had.
Pocket money priced games FTW

Going round your mates, that was the best thing of the era:)

Can chart my entire history of comp/console ownership, having drooled over it beforehand.

Want some fun on the subject, have a listen to the latest edition of the retro asylum podcast.

Still got my CPC 6128 at the folks place. Was an awesome machine. However, the lack of games on it compared to other systems really sucked.

C64 - had the best dedicated support chips

The spectrum had the Z80 running @ 2MHz tho which was a great CPU, which was a decent 16bit register cpu

VIC20 -> C64 -> Amiga 500 (had a 20MB SCSI HD for it) -> various PC's thru the ages
