Briton said:On this day, the 200,000 year anniversary of the first time a caveman clubbed his mate, I'd like to apologise to all women. I'm terribly sorry.

I think I'll move to the Middle-East. Multiples wives and the odd slap sounds quite good at the moment![]()

Clerkin said:yes, its pointless.
as is this thread and your sweary![]()
Briton said:OK...altered the sweary...sorry.
Don't see why the thread is pointless...current affairs and all that.
Clerkin said:been done to death though.
cleanbluesky said:You're not the only one who is tired of the 'apologism' media coverage, but that's not to say the idea is totally invalid. Slavery involved some very cruel practices which we should be concious of but we shouldn't apportion victimhood and blame to particular ethnic groups and we shouldn't contruct slavery as historical or fail to acknowledge it as just one part of a wider problem of suffering that generally everyone has faced
Briton said:Of course we all realise that slavery was a terrible thing but I think the idea of present generations apologising is invalid. Where would it all end? Every human being would end up having to apologise for every injustice commited by the species.

cleanbluesky said:...but the idea of taking responsibility for the capacity to committ cruelty is a valid one. If I see what has been done in the past and recognise my capacity to do similar then I can say "I recognise that I have that capacity and choose not to encourage it".
