My dad is a Ebay nutter and he's using an computer oh so very old.

Intel Cel 433mhz
Voodoo 3 3000 graphics
256mb Sdram 100
20gb harddrive.

Now I thought I'd build a PC thats great for ebay and photo resizing thats not going to cost him the earth.

Here gose

Mobo - Gigabyte K8N51GMF nForce 6100 Micro ATX (Socket 754) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-054-GI)£46.94
CPU - AMD Sempron 64 2800+ 1.6GHz (Socket 754) CPU - Retail (CP-138-AM) £53.99
DDR - OcUK Value 512MB PC3200 184pin DDR Memory (MY-002-OK) £23.44
Harddrive - Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 80GB 6L080P0 ATA-133 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-073-MD) £34.02
Case - Antec SLK1650 Beige Quiet Mini Tower Case - 350W SmartPower PSU (CA-024-AN) £46.94

Now what bothers me a little is the PSU it's a good make but only 350watt antec bundled with the case. Will this Antec 350watt be fine seen as he'll be using both onboard Graphics and sound?

Thanks for your time guys I appreciate it.

I reckon the current PC could be good enough with a little windows tweaking/optimization. That is a great price for a new system though. :)

Your cutting corners with the Budget RAM which is a bad idea! Ask any system builder! Pay the few quid more and get a decent stick of reliable RAM that has decent compatability such as crucial.

To spend £47 on a case/PSU and then get budget RAM is crazy imho!
A decent case & PSU can be bought for £30 which would leave you with more than enough to get some decent RAM which is more important than the case/PSU.

I would also swap the Maxtor Hd for a Seagate one, 5 years warranty and far more reliable than Maxtor.

Pay a little more for Geil Value. Good stuff, usually runs tighter timings than said (and it's already timed tighter than OcUK Value) and its got a lifetime warranty on it. Can get a gig of the stuff for £60 too, which will make the system a little more long lived as it'll be able to take Vista, which I can see requiring 512MB and recommending 1GB.

Well considering it's being built for someone who is:

a) Not a gamer
b) Not likely to be overclocking
c) Using very low system resource apps

I think performance RAM is a bit OTT! Just need something that is going to be compatible, rock solid stable and competitively priced. Hence why I recommended bog standard crucial sticks!!

Also you seem to be forgetting that you can ADD ram to a computer at a later date so if in the future he decides he wants Vista then he can simply buy another 512Mb stick of crucial 3200 DDR which will more than likely be cheaper as well then. Happy Days :D

I see you haven't had a PSU blow up in your face that came from a case + PSU that costs £30.

The GEIL ram is nice but there is nothing wrong with that build. Extremly good for a average PC user.

Valid point. The ocuk ram is absolutely fine for his needs.

Will the PSU go straight into the mobo I know a lot of new mobos need v2.01 PSUs.

I went for the antec case and PSU bundle as I've had friends that have had a cheapo PSU blow on them and take out a lot of the rest of the PC with it. I believe Antec are the most trusted for good PSUs. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys.

On the Antec site it says 2.o so it will have the 24 pins required by the motherboard, so hopefully you will get a newer one, and OcUK haven't updated the site for it.

Geil Value isnt performance ram hence the value name lol

Also, I said about it, cos its less hassle for him later (cos by the sound of it he doesnt like upgrading), and each individual stick costs less if you buy it in a kit.
