An extremely weird fan issue?

Hi :)

My new cpu cooler was very loud (Stock cooler supplied with phenom II 955), louder than what seemed like nomal to me,

On my case I have a 250mm side fan blowing pretty much straight at the cpu cooler fan,
I took the side off my case while the system was running and noticed the cpu cooler started getting quieter.

When I put it back on, the cpu fan got louder,
Now, I've disconnected the side fan, put the side back on and the cooler is massively quieter

There isn't any change in core temps and ambient tempreture is pretty much the same,

Has my large side fan been somehow causing the cpu fan to overwork? or made it go faster perhaps with the extra wind?

Any oppinions appreciated as I'm baffled lol

Cheers

I would say its been making it go faster or its been putting pressure on the fan making it work harder, use speed fan and turn your side fan down

ps. nice case

cheers dude

The case has built in fan controllers and even on the lowest setting I can here it working harder,

Might have to fassion some sort of perspex chute for inside to direct the fan flow to the bottom of the case,

getting a new aftermarker cooler soon anyway, was just wondering why its doing what it is lol

Get a http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-035-AR and mount it facing towards the front of your case and it shouldent be affected :)

Yeah The Phenom was running well, not hot but hotter than my old cpu (AMD Athlon 64 dual core 5000+) but that was to be expected as this cpu is 125W,

Was idling at 41c before never passing 49c underload,
thats with the stock thermal pad too as my arctic silver arrived this morning and i'm about to apply some,

Its idleing at 38C now?

maybe it is a pressure thing or your case fan is causing turbulent air and it is hitting the cpu fan. Is there much temperature difference when under load, as I have Haf 932 and the side case fan provides a lot of air movement when gaming.

Well theres bound to be a lot of air movement with all the fans,
Just applied some arctic silver and its now idling at 36c

Ambient is 32c so will leave the side fan off til I get the new cooler :)

Related question.

I was thinking of getting one of these cases. Is it correct they are based on a Chieftec chassis.

What do you think of case? Can the fans be made pretty silent, but still provide good cooling?

Not sure on the Chieftec chassis but when i stripped it for painting, it was pretty much a normal looking case, just bigger,

The fans are very very quiet, I cant hear mine

Oh and if you do get one, take the feet things off the bottom, there not really needed and to make make the case look unproportionate,

looks far better without them :)
