Have been out fo the loop fro so long now, that I have no idea where to start on this one.

Am currently running an i7-4790k with 32GB of RAM and have a GTX 1070 for my GFX

Have had this for a fair few years now and wil be looking to upgrade this lot.

GFX wise have been seeing how crazy the market is at the moment, so will stick with that card until there becomes more stock and I dont have to remove major organs to get one.

CPU wise, am thinking of heading towards AMD thjis time round, particularly the 5900X CPU. WHat would be a good mobo and memory combo to go with that? Memory dont watnt o go below 32GB as I am an astroimager and use Pixinsight to do my processing on and have a RAM drive setup for swap file on there.

Main uses, other than gaming, are image processing, 3D printing / slicing and am looking to start on the CAD front soon. Games wise, am a big sim freak, so main installs are DCS World, MS FS, Star Citizen, Elite (can anyone see a theme here.......)

Budget is as close to £800 as I can get, but can probably stretch a wee bnit over if needed.

Cheers in advance

B550 v x570 motherboard.

X570 has more pcie4 lanes which allow you to run 2 x m2 drives at pcie4 speed , b550 will allow you to run 1 x m2 at pcie4 and 1x m2 at pcie3 speed.

For most people b550 is enough but if you want the fastest data transfer between to drives then x570 .

You will need a decent cooler for the 5900x.

If you need wifi,The MSI Gaming Edge Wifi is a tweaked Tomahawk and sits above the former and below the Carbon. the Carbon has 2 heat sinks for the m.2's rather than 1 on the gaming edge and has 2 more usb's. both are wifi 6. I threw in the rgb version of ram if you like that sort of thing. 3600C16 or C18 ram seems to be the best bang for buck point at the mo. diff between C16 and C18 seems to be a couple fps, so wouldn't worry too much. Crucial been out of stock for over a week or so and OCuk sem to have the best price for it.

i just went for the R7 5800x and got the B550 carbon mobo above. Going to ring OC to see when they get more of the Ram in or going with Corsair Vengeance Pro 3600C18.
If you want X570 board, most people recommended me the MSI X570 tomahawk for £219.99 on OCuk as best midrange X570 board. I thought about it but went for a 2TB SN850 gen 4 m.2 rather than 1TB. Should do me fine (actually overkill) for my needs so X570 wasn't really needed as don't plan on getting another m.2 any time soon, and if I do, a gen 3 will be more than fast enough.
