Well there I was at work ready to moor a ship up (Dana Sirena) and watching it come in at a rather fast pace had us a little concerned... As it got closer, it didn't ease off either and after making a quick scarper, the ship took out the walkways that we use for mooring and proceeded to demolish the ramp for which we use to unload ships with. It has also damaged another berth and thankfully, not one person was injured on the ship or ashore :)

No reason as to why it happened but my speculation is the ships engines were stuck on and wouldn't shut down. The river this ship comes up narrows after our quay and the potential of grounding and then toppling over must have been on the captains mind. I am guessing he made a quick decision to stop the ship by hitting the side of the quay... I am open to other suggestions?

Photo's are now uploading to photobucket and will be on soon :)

Had a similar, but less dramatic, day at work once when a lorry ploughed through 2 portacabins.

Luckily there was only 1 person in them and she got out unscathed.

Just read about this on BBC news. Seems odd given the weather was clear. I was on a Stenaline ferry at Holyhead last year & Captain announced that weather conditions were outside of the ships operating limits for docking, they'd give it a go anyway but, chances were we'd have to anchor and wait it out. Took about 45 mins to dock. Impressive ship control.
