Currently have

Pentium D 820
MSI mobo
7900GS
450w PSU

Looking at about £250-£300 max upgrade.. I want water cooling and I'm going to overclock.

Here's what I have provisionally:

Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz
Asus P5K SE Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Total: £170.63

Then the rest to spend on some water cooling stuff.

Should I forget about the water and just go for air with a better CPU?

Thanks for any help.

Airrr!

This sort of thing...although you could quite easily save £30-40 by going for a Gigabyte GA_P35C_Ds3R

Is it worth spending a bit more on an x38 chip mobo? E.g. the Giga. X38-DQ6?

Not really, look at the reviews and benchmarks, its a minimal performance increase with a much higher cost at the mo

Well according to Tom's Hardware, it's an 'Overclocking Champ', but I wont doubt your intelligence. :p

Toms hardware are well known to give the best reviews to whoever pays them the most... It may well be a good overclocker, but so are many boards on other chipsets. The only difference is that it offers a different set of features, if you consider them to be worth the extra cash, then go for it, but at the moment most people dont, since there are other boards that overlock just as well for far less money
