Had this motherboard for about a year now but last night it suddenly just turned off while I was on the phone.
I got the computer to reboot once or twice by removing some items (case fan being one) but again it failed at just after BIOS.

Then the computer failed to boot with the light just under the POST display flashing red. I assumed this was the motherboard failing to recieve power, given the fact it booted twice when removing some power cords. So i swapped my 550 wt power supply with another 400 psu and then the light stopped flashing and stayed on.

I tried my old psu in the other computer and it worked fine so im thinking the psu might be ok. The Psu in question was a colorsit 550 golden silent.

However, now the POST display shows a 3 on the right and then switches to a F on the left with decimal point and refuses to switch on. I read the manual for my motherboard and seen nothing at the back which details the POST display meanings. That isnt described very well but here's what it looks like.

My worst fears are the motherboard is fried and given the time of the year it will be difficult to get one at a reasnable price.

Anything I might have missed out please ask away.

OS: Windows XP.
CPU: Athlon 64 3700+
RAM: 2Gb Corsair

Thanks.

sure that I've replied to you elsewhere but my vote is that it is your PSU that's failing/failed. The flashing red LED (5Vsb) is usually inadequate PSU supply & the fact that swapping in the 400W stops that would back that up..
Colorsit aren't noted as a quality PSU.

yeah but the computer wont boot up with the 400wt psu either and gives the POST display (see above) and given the fact that the colorit psu boots up my other pc fine and dandy (using it just now) surely it cant be attributed to the psu alone but I do understand your point aye.

Maybe its worth upgrading the system in general :/

how many Amps on the +12V rail?
You really need 20 plus & ideally over 24A

I don't know the specs of your other system but it's quite possible that it has a lesser requirement especially if it's an older board with AGP.

Well I got myself a Akasa 500W ATX2.2 this morning.
Hooked it up and tried the power, smoke started coming from the POST area. Again nothing turning on.

POST now shows a 0.1 and does not respond to the power button.

Might be a wee hint its time for a new mb.

try contacting abit UK direct then.
Abit have a 2 year warranty afaik in the UK & iirc the AN8-V wasn't available until about 18 months ago so it can't yet be out of warranty.
