Can i get an adapter that will allow me to plug in my analogue modem into a digital phone socket and get a dial up connection.

No, they are completely different devices. In fact broadband modems are misnamed. They are NOT modem's (which stands for Modulator/de modulator) as there is not modulation going on (being Digital not Analogue). They are really just network routers of a sort.

If you're talking about ISDN, then yes, you can. You need to look at some sort of terminal adapter which will plug into the RJ45 output of the ISDN and give up (usually 2) RJ11 analogue ports.

It depends what sort of broadband you are talking about. ADSL isn't really digital, it just all the squeaking noises it makes are too high pitch for you to hear on the line.

ADSL Router Status said:
Modulation: G.dmt
Annex Mode: ANNEX_A
Startup Attempts: 1
Max Tx Power: -38 dBm/Hz

i wasn't on about broadband but it doesnt matter. i was on about plugging a good old analogue 56k modem into a digital phone socket.

Cable modems also use an analogue line so are also modems. Since cable modem uses the same line as used to transmit TV it is analogue. Although when TV goes completely digital I guess they could switch it over to a pure digital line but would probably be quite expensive to change all the equipment.

Confused about what your calling a digital phone socket, please explain what its part of and who provides it (sounds like you mean the analogue phone socket on at Voip router/access box)

PS I have used analogue modems at work where we have alldigital external lines . Calls outside to another modem worked (never checked the speed thouhg), calls to a mobile GSM modem worked for along time then became unreliable for reasons we never identified.
